followed hyphaes pinning strategy....fruiting question
    #10834660 -

So after the pinset should the RH be turned down to 90%ish for casings?  Pinset meaning for me pinheads everywhere.  And if you have an ultra fine mister would you still mist at all or no.  Another quick question..after harvest and abort removal..best strategy is to patch and mist heavily? or back to "near saturation"? Or dunk? or ?  The colonized substrate is about the size of a loaf of bread.  I've read that I could pour distilled water in the container containing the casing and put something clean to weigh it down and submerge it for a few hours then just dump the water.  But I dont know if that few hours of stagnant water is more harmful than useful for the mycelium.  Just trying to tweak my methods to get the most out of em.  Thanks in advance for any help.

90ish humidity, yes. Casings hold a lot of water, you need to let some of that evaporate as a pining trigger. Not too much.

Most people want to dunk after a flush. The mushrooms are 90% water, you're taking a huge amount of water out of you tub.

i've seen casings preform beautiful at 99% humidity.

cubes are such an easy species i guess it really doesn't matter that much, but 90% for casings is apparently recommended because casings provide their own humidity in a way.

I got it from The Mushroom Cultivator by Stamets.
Great book, foundational material. A bit dated, but worth reading and re-reading.
But the chapter on casing, rock solid.

But wait...

are we talking about a casing? Or an uncased substrate? Because the answer might be different.

lol colonized rye with the 60/40 coir/verm/oyster CASING.  Unless I'm totally confused on what a casing is.....but the rye is whats colonized...which is substrate correct?

Woot! Ding ding ding! You are correct!

And then my answer changes somewhat, but not in regards to humidity. My humidity advice stands.
But rye is pretty inefficient. It works, yes. But consider coir or poo or another bulk sub for a future grow.

Edit- I dunno about dunking rye. It'll hold together, that's not a problem. But I don't know how much it will absorb.

try this for a sub next time and mix your spawn(colonized jars of rye) to this tek. coir substrate prep

your casing is ok, but use verm and peat 50/50 as per these vids www.mushroomvideos.com its the best casing material to use so far.  save your coir for a substrate mix cuz it is very nutritious for the mushies.  look in my sig for the definition of casing.

to rehydrate your sub just pour a cup of water around the edges and give it a few hours then remove excess water to avoid contams from stag water.

Thanks you so much! 13shrooms...I used to be on the shroomery like 5 years ago..got dis-interested and recently got a hobby.  Saw Magash's tek with like a 4.5 star rating so figured its got to be one of the best yielding teks....i knew something wasn't clicking right after reading a lot of the newer posts and topics.  Things just seemed contradicting. That last post of yours will be very useful.  Thanks a bunch...have been doing these little things for a while now so it is time to step up and go bulk. Thanks again

Actually rye is an excellent substrate providing many flushes. Much more nutritious than coir. using rye or poo as a substrate is simply a matter on choice/tek. Each have there own advantages.
FYI rye is highly efficient in it's own right.

Bring the casing back up to near saturation and using a good casing layer in the first place eliminates the need for dunking. Once misted down let it sit until the second flush begins to bolt then start misting again those fruits will soak it up ASAP! Maintaining that proper moisture level in a casing layer requires a keen eye and understanding of what it is we are doing. GL

i will be switching to peat to try that.  Then I guess i can switch to coir or hpoo as substrate (bad thing is i got like 20qts of colonizing rye :/  ) can get both but wonder if i can convert my pmps to monotubs.
