which path would you choose-G2G or GLC

newb in need of help

question on the table: G2G or Grain Liquid Culture(GLC)

seems like G2G is the time tested method of the two but GLC looks like less room for contaminates opportunities and more myc to work with to knock up more jars than the G2G. am i missing anything or on the right track with GLC being the better of the two methods

just having trouble deciding what to do.........thx 4 da help y'all

I am stumped on what to do also, thats why im just gonna do g2g with 1 jar and grain lc with the other one. Then compare to see which was indeed faster. Mycology is full of fun experiments:grin:

I've done both and I would prefer to do a G2G over the grain LC.

I use regular LCs more often than both because it's simple, effective, and I don't need a GB at all. Just open air work. Ya gotta be clean with the syringe and all that though.

Why would you need a glovebox for myc water (grain lc) and not normal lc?

Do you want lots of slow colonizing jars or 10 fast colonizing jars?

G2G will colonize fast as hell but you can only do so many jars.

GLC will colonize slower but you can do LOTS more jars.

I'm going to make a grain LC as soon as one of my jars is ready.  I mean, what's not to love about 500mL of mycelium solution?  :wink:

I would suggest making mycelium syringes instead of doing g2g.  Not only can you make enough syringes to knock up way more than 10 jars, but you can still use that grain to spawn to whatever substrate.

you still can match the speed of grain spawn.

You can acutally get a shitload of jars doing g2g transfers

1 grain can transfer to 10 more. you do the math after 3 transfers thats a shitload of jars, more than you know what to do with probably.

One thing that I'd like to point out is that GLC syringes or jars are a very compact way to store mycelium for months or even years.

Grain jars themselves can be stored in the refrigerator, but they're much more expensive, space-wise, for the amount of mycelium you are storing.

For this reason, I recommend GLC. If your first batch of GLC goes down well, you can set yourself up to not have to make any more for a long time.

Do both, 4-5 tbl to g2g one jar than use that jar to g2g more jars if needed, wait a couple days for the master jar to re knit and show signs of possible con-tam just in case, than proceed with glc.

G2G is the way to go,  you can have hundreds of jars from just one in less than a month.  So tell me if a grain LC can do that?

From what I understand yes, faster even. Once the master grain jar is colonized you make the myc water (per agar's tek 500ml) if you used 2-3cc per jar then you get 160-250 jars from that one jar. Not to mention the master replenishes itself and you can make another jar of water from it.
