Infinity and the illusion of death
    #10702299 -

Sup shroomery. So I was youtubing in my usual cannabinated fashion and came across this video titled 'We are Infinite'.

And I found this concept very appealing to me. I wanted to share and discuss with everyone here.

Let me briefly explain what I think it is in my own words. Our consciousness (who we are in the everlasting Now) is like a receiver, and it is able to receive every possible spectrum of experience in existence. Just think there have been 100 billion people on this Earth all throughout history. Each one had a different life, a different personality. And then there's all the different species on this earth. A human being can't even conceive of the vastness in number the number of bugs that have penetrated into this dimension. The possibilities are endless (the definition of infinite). There is even the concept of infinite in mathematics with fractals. This is a REAL concept, it's built into nature, it's built into our consciousness.

The imagination is also infinite in its reach. It's sort of a non-local dimension that consciousness can explore. And if a conscious being chooses to one can take what is explored and materialize it into three-dimensional space. It's an endless spectrum of effects. So this means as far as consciousness is concerned everything is as real as everything else.

And since we are essentially our consciousness when we die what happens is all boundaries are dissolved. You mesh into the infinite, you lose the "I" and the "ME". This is the concept of oneness with the universe, with EVERYTHING. The religious impulse of human beings is simply an attempt to reconnect with that portion of our consciousness.

Ok, so now this doesn't account for what this life is, or who you are in all this. It says that your identity is simply an illusion. And I think we can all agree to a certain extent that is true. It also doesn't account for what this life is or what its purpose is. As far as God is concerned it says that YOU are (at least a small part) of God rather than some mono or polytheistic idea. But really above all else what this concept does in my mind is it can give credence to the issue of what happens when you die. It says that death is the ultimate illusion. That you are everything that ever was, has been and will be.

This is a pretty psychedelic idea too, as you may have noticed.

Thoughts?

All this is obvious as i see, how could we be other then the Infinite?

Some say im arrogant cause i know i am the Infinite,
i reckon its arrogance to think you could be separate from the Infinite

Most don't want it, they want to keep on dreaming & creating

I say to the Infinite, Kill me Now & leave nothing behind
Empty me out until there is no ME left
Suck me into your black hole & spit out my bones

No less then complete anihilation to come into the absolute highest truth
the Infinite

And the Infinite ignores your puny plea. Actually that is incorrect. First the Infinite must acknowledge your plea in order to ignore it.

You will be put into the bonechipper when It feels like it.

So is this it? Have we discovered the secrets of death ?

I was hoping to get some opposing views telling me why I'm completely wrong.

I noticed one very significant flaw in the video's "reasoning:"

"In order to have the local experience that you are having, you have to be supported by an infinite existence."
- video

I don't see this as self-evident. In fact, I see no reason at all to assume that our experience is not finite. We have finite sensory receptors and a finite amount of greymatter, don't we?

Its possible to see everything exactly as it really is, but doing that takes enough power to realize that what you usually see is only yourself, reflected in the mirror. Its a great joke you see. We look and we postulate and we guess and we examine and describe, but all that does is serve to describe the self.

There is no description for what one really sees though. The best way to observe it is simply to stop the description altogether. Only when everything is equal, and description is impossible, does the seeing really begin.

That is also where it ends. The intricacies of what you do with that information, well. If you have any clue about what I'm talking about then you're just going to laugh quietly to yourself that I even made this post.

[quote]We don't need anyone to teach us sorcery, because there is really nothing to learn. What we need is a teacher to convince us that there is incalculable power at our fingertips. What a strange paradox! Every warrior on the path of knowledge thinks, at one time or another, that he's learning sorcery, but all he's doing is allowing himself to be convinced of the power hidden in his being, and that he can reach it. I don't know if your wrong so much as your saying things that are completely meaningless.

Like other folks talking about "infinity," you seem to just use your own language, and I have no idea what your saying unless your just defining words as convenient.

As for the parts that are reasonably clear, you have proffered nothing to back up your claims, so I really see no reason to even consider them.  It honestly seems like a bunch of wankery to me.

I think you were the guy that made an infinity post a bit ago.  I recall you have some odd definition of the word that is quite apart from the usual definitions.

Definition of Infinity?

I can't seem to find any definition of infinity, the dictionaries version won't cut it for me
