I think that it's rater stupid and delusional to think that people should have a certain age in order to be able to decide if they want to have sex or not, and with whom. As long as the sexual act is consented by all the parties involved, why should the legal system have any word to say in this, why should the society label it as wrong, and why should the parents want to protect their underage kids from pleasure? :crazy2:

Maybe if people would stop being so ridiculous on their approach to sex and sex education, then they would actually have more chances to enjoy it and they would stop feeling so guilty from something so enjoyable and fun like sex.

As long as sex education is complete at the age in question, I don't see the issue. I think the kid has the right to be informed about the risks involved (pregnancy, stds) before being encouraged to go at it.

This is a funny thing I've noticed, I suspect that age of consent laws vary based on how sex ed is taught. For example in my part of Canada the province lowered the age from 16 to 14 and because the average age of birth control education was 15 a large amount of unplanned pregnancies resulted. This drew attention and forced a rollback on this policy. Similarly a low amount of importance is placed on contraceptives in the USA and the age of consent is 18 with no sign of budging any time soon. I don't have many examples but I think that the symptoms like STDs and pregnancy that become socially apparent are the cause of the legislation, not philosophical issues. That's not to say that this is a bad thing, but if societies would educate their youths at earlier ages these laws would not likely have to be so severe.

I mean any society that decides that a permanent STD or baby is a way to "learn from experience" has got something wrong with it. That said if the person is already explained the risks and consequences and it is clear to them and the majority of their peers what can happen, then it's appropriate.

Sexual contact is not just a pleasurable act, it comes with psychological and legal responsibilities. A child's mind is not capable of the complex social implications. They don't understand why something that feels so good, could also complicate their future possibilities. After a couple thousand years we finally can see that most children involved in sexual contact, have damaged their psychological health.  In my opinion people that have sex with children are sick.

I think some on here are looking at different age groups. For example I once started dating a girl who was just a year under the age of consent and that could've been jail time for me I suppose. Would the above statement hold as true if said "child" was 17 (under age in the USA)? It is contemptible that legislation treats the 17 year old the same as the 9 year old IMO.

I did at 12 or so (in grade 7) but comprehensive data on contraceptives wasn't explained until I was 15 (grade 9). Frankly I think the data I got in grade 7 was poor, but I was a religious wanker then as well so it's possible that my personal interpenetration factored into the equation.

If I were the Judge, I would expect most seventeen year old boys and girls to understand. You and I both know some of them are still childish,so the law tries to distinguish between early teen and adult teen.  I distinguish that line to be eighteen.  Someone in their early twenties may say sixteen.

I don't know if you were in the minority or not, but I do know that 13 years old is half a life too late for kids to learn about sex. 7-9 would seem to be a much more appropriate range of time considering that this is the time it actually becomes relevant to them.

I mean, for as much as everyone whines about how complex sex is, one would hope that they would realize that it is only their own hang-ups about sex. I mean, how much more simple can it be? Physical and mental stimulants create pleasure, and humans can give each other pleasure through having sex. That's about it, unless you want to get into how incapable a lot of people seem to be able to handle sex for what it is. All of that crap doesn't have anything to do with sex, however.

I think the idea that something so natural and basic about being human has to be kept from children until they will somehow, someday be capable of "handling it" is nothing but complete bullshit and probably the source of exactly why so many people are fucked in the head about sex.

I had a sexual experience as a child with another girl who was probably a year younger than me; does anybody here think there is something wrong with that?

I'm just glad you're not relying on the past for your argument.
Nothing irks me more than someone saying "it used to be this way..."

But in that same line of thought, laws on sexual maturity are not based on nothing. They must reflect something in the society. We are not really a society built on the family structure anymore. Families work. Moms and Dads alike. If the daughter of the family becomes pregnant before they've even graduated high school, it's going to be tough. The probability of dropping out of school seems high, because in most cases, there will be no one else available to care for the child. The extra financial strain on the parents is going to create tensions, and probably an even less ideal environment for the child than usual.

While it would not be impossible to overcome, it makes sense that in a society lacking a strong family system to rely on for support, we fall back on laws to protect us. Certainly not ideal, but it makes sense to me

But seriously, how many girls are getting pregnant without wanting nowadays, when there's so many contraceptives, not to mention that even if a girl gets pregnant and doesn't have the material means to sustain a child, she can always get an abortion. Not the most preferable thing to do, but it surely is better than having a kid when completely unprepared and create so much suffering because of that.
Not to mention that, even if they don't use any contraceptive method, it isn't because they're "too young", but because they lack of any sexual education.

I wasn't aware that fucking was a "complex social relation", especially of we're paying a closer attention to the other animals and how they go about sex. One doesn't have to be in a deep, meaningful and loving relationship in order to have sex, and no matter how much you're trying to insist on the issue, there's no such thing as deeper responsibilities and psychological implications.
It is pretty clear that sex can mean anything, depending on the meaning one chooses to put into it.

Maybe you will explain exactly what a child can't handle as a result of having sex.

Quote:
They don't understand why something that feels so good, could also complicate their future possibilities.

What exactly from having sex could complicate their future possibilities?
If a eight year old masturbates daily, instead of having sex, will this complicate his future too?
Personally, I see absolutely no evidence that show sex can ruin a kid's life, and I say that from the perspective of someone who was very curious about their sexuality from an early age and experimented with girls since the age of 8 and it was fun as hell and felt really good, and I'd do it again without second thoughts.

If my high school class is any indication, quite a few girls get pregnant without wanting it. And while some of them may have wanted it, age and experience still play a large part in understanding the consequences of such a desire.

I understand the argument for sex ed, but I think it is overly idealistic to believe that at a young age children can be taught complex consequences without having to experience them for themselves. How exactly do you explain, and assure comprehension of, the stress a pregnancy will place on a family? I'm sure you're aware as I am that children of the same age are not all on par when it comes to developmental level.

I see current laws working by placing responsibility on the shoulders of those who have  had the opportunity to acquire the experience and maturity to carry it. If we simply believe the only responsibility we have is to teach children and then let them have their way, we're placing a great deal of responsibility onto the children themselves.

I mean, do you really want to place the responsibility of contraception onto underage girls and boys? Guys don't like condoms, and I'm pretty confident in saying that age will not matter in this regard. So the girls are either going to have to be uncharacteristically hard assed and make the guy wear one, or they're going to have to take on the responsibility of remembering to take the pill every day.

It just doesn't seem developmentally appropriate to assign so much responsibility at such a young age. I think sexual education should be stepped up, certainly. We should have nothing to hide about sex. But I don't agree that the laws should not exist, and that they serve no purpose.

girls get fucked up - then fucked.

as they grow older .. their tolerance for alcohol goes up therefore providing better discernment when it comes to sexual partners.

also.. where i come from there is no such thing as a legal age for having sex , nor could you take someone to court for having sex with your 16 or 17 year old daughter.

from experience(when i was around 18,19,20) .. these girls  are the easiest pussy out there.
and.. they are trying to get some action yet remain respected , so they usually target older males that arent in their immediate surroundings such as school and whatnot..

in other words.. i dont really care about age and who fucks who..
and i  wont stick my hand in the cookie jar ..
but the whole thing kinda leans toward little girls being sluts.. and bitch ass guys getting action with inexperienced girls.

guys and girls.. mutually use each other for sexual pleasure..
when the younger girl decides it was only fun.. the formerly confident older guy goes nuts and falls in love with the little girl that fucked him  and left...
usually the female reacts to this , since the rest of the guys fucked her and left.. so a relationship may come out of it.
its stupid

main point -  it is very , very rare that you will find two people with such an age difference that have healthy sex or a healthy relationship.
the amount is so minute that the rest of the sluts and kiddy fuckers will make it an issue for parents trying to protect their children , probably because they had the same experiences growing up.

i would argue that ones freedom should not be restricted by age when it comes to love .. or just sex if both parties are at least at an age where their sexual organs are developed enough to participate in intercourse.

"old enough to bleed .. old enough to breed "

it sounds disgusting.. but isnt it only natural after all ?
why do we gain sexual maturity if we are to ignore  it and still wait for an age that has been imposed on us as the morally right time.

i had sexual thoughts , needs and curiosities when  i was 5 !!

i actually got naked with another little five yr old girl..
ill spare you of the details..
but how ?
and why would i even get the idea ?
and why would she agree ?
i havent seen any pornos at that time... nor did i have the slightest idea what sex is supposed to be like

i think bottom line.. we are very interesting creatures  - us humans..
and the more we restrict our actions.. the more we actually start doing disgusting things as a form of rebellion against the limitations of our limitless curiosity and sincerity.

:peace:

Just teach those underage boys about child support payments and the possibility of a multiple-child birth, It ought to be a regular component of sex ed. I do not doubt that if a young man knew a child could take a large percentile of his paycheck of which the mother is not even obligated to spend on the child, they would all be much more enthusiastic about condoms. That is on top of the very real problem of aids and other STDs.

Here is how the prosecution felt about a CONSENSUAL relationship between a 16 year old and her 37 year old seminary principle this past week.
http://www.deseretnews.com/article/1,5143,705316062,00.html
Pratt was booked into the Utah County Jail for investigation of aggravated kidnapping, unlawful sexual conduct with a 16- or 17-year-old, aggravated forcible sex abuse, forcible sodomy, object rape, lewdness, burglary, criminal trespassing, contributing to the delinquency of a minor and enticing a minor. A judge set bail Friday at $20,000 cash only. Pratt is scheduled to be in 4th District Court at 8:30 a.m. Monday.

The "aggravated kidnapping" was from checking her out of seminary so they could have sex in different places, including a house for sale which resulted in the criminal trespassing charge.  The lewdness was from sending her sexual text messages, and the rest they don't report on because apperently it's too graphic.

Even though I think if you're old enough to drive you're old enough to choose a sexual partner no matter what age the person is, shit like this is enough to keep the majority of people from doing it.  Now if they arrested people on sexual fantasies I can only imagine how many people would be guilty. :happyhitler:

Children are not that naive, you can inventively explain basic economic concepts to them quite easily by substituting the articles in reality with their represented finite means. Everyone has a limited means of some sort no mater how rich their family is.
