Melbourne ID Request - subs
    #10639592 -

I've been reading up over the recent off season, first time posting.
Suspect I have found my first subs in Melbourne bush land.

Habitat:
Gum tree bush area, shady and moist. Lots of wood debris. See Photos.

Gills:
whitish cream caramel, gills not attached

Stem:
Roughly 5-centimeters, white with blue/black bruising.

Cap:
3-4 centimeters, slight blue bruising, offwhite to brownish color.

Spore print color:
Currently in progress...will let you know asap!

Bruising:
Dark bluish bruising around base of stems.

Another other info just ask me.
Thanks in advance guys!

** Edit - worked out how to upload pictures properly.

Psilocybe subaeruginosa

Nice finds. I think your sub cherry has just been popped!

Cheers dude. I was pretty confident they were subs. Its always good to have a second opinion though! I have to admit I picked a lot of a very similar looking mushroom before finding these and realizing my errors lol. Thanks again!

In case anyone is interested in the drying progress, these were taken a few minutes ago.

Notice the left-most mushroom in the second picture, the stem was rotting slightly when picked. Should this stem be discarded?

I plan to grind them up and pour into caps on the weekend (provided they have dried enough). Any thoughts?

It just looks splintered, not rotten. I wouldnt worry about it, just make sure it doesnt stink before you dry them.

Ive heard this mentioned a few times and it is how I gather my mushrooms, but why is this?
If the mushrooms do not reproduce via a root system then why does it make a difference if you just pull them out of the ground?

Cheers

For wood chip mushrooms its best to leave as much of the original mycelium there as possible.

The best way may be to pull up the mushrooms with the mycelium, fill the holes with fresh wood chips and use the stem butts/myc to start a new patch in your back yard.  Anything you do to disturb the mycelium will inhibit fruiting, at least for this season.

With dung mushrooms it doesn't matter much.

Well I've been drying these for 4 days now at room temperature (no heating or fan).
They are all quite crisp. I was planning on grinding them up but is it maybe better to eat them like this?
Or is it too late to turn back?

Basically I want to have some tonight. I have a grinder but didn't make it to the store to get some gel caps.
I don't want to overdose cause its my first time with shrooms.
Maybe if I eat just one of the small dried ones?
Thanks in advance guys!

You will not overdose. If it is your first time try between 3-5 dried mushrooms. Make a tea and place the shrooms in the tea, they will re-hydrate. Let it steep for a while then drink the tea. I would also eat the mushrooms but this is up to you.
