ID 'request' (but not much info, sorry) 1

Hi all,
First of all, I know that this is not a proper ID request as there's no additional info besides the picture below. The story: my friend went to the woods today to shoot some nice pics with his digicam, and stumbled upon this mushroom. As his hobby is photgraphing and not mushroom hunting/identification, he didn't bother to take a spore print or take down some more information. I went through his photos tonight and stumbled upon the one below, and couldn't come up with a possible match. I suspect they're false cantharelles, but I forgot the Latin name for this species so I couldn't verify this guess. A Google search and a search on these boards didn't provide much help.
So, if anyone'd like to take a stab at id-ing this one, be my guest! Think of it as a sort of quizz
http://www.pbase.com/image/25003413 (It seems PBase doesn't allow direct links to pics on its servers, so we'll have to do with a link...)
PS: important to note: the mushrooms are growing from what appears to be a cherry-like tree. Temperatures are somewhere between 0C and 10C at the moment.

Yes, I see, it might be something like pleurotus dryinus...I think I'll settle for that

Or I was thinking the Late Fall Oyster, I don't remember the latin name it is part of a different genus. It's hard to tell because they are old. I was thinking because they were somewhat greenish.

hmmm. not pleurotus. possibly panellus serotinus http://www.dogpile.com/info.dogpl/search/images/panellus%2Bserotinus
doesn't look like what i find as late fall oyster
and as for the trametes...same problem, i guess. the angle makes it hard to tell. possibly versicolor. nice photos, just not descriptive enough. and the plural of "photo" is "photos" not "photo's" MAN i hate that.

Yeah, I think I can live with that.

Yeah, I know, as I said, my friend's hobby is photography, not mushrooms hunting or identification. But I did ask him to take gill shots and document some properties of the mushrooms when he finds some again

Getting all wound up about that 'round here won't do much good. As I already said: I didn't take the pics, I didn't create the PBase gallery; it was a friend of mine, and I can assure you he doesn't frequent these boards. But of course, you're right
