I joined the armed forces.

I have just earned the rank of Private.
I am proud. I am excited. I am nervous.
I am unsure of my future.
I don't know if I will be serve overseas.
I don't know if in 10 years I will still be alive.
I don't know where I will be in 4 years.
And I wouldn't have it any other way.

What the army knows, is that I have no drugs in my system. That I am not currently doing drugs, and that I have been honest about my past with them.

The way shit is going armed forces is a sure paid salary, I say good for you. Hopefully, you'll learn some trade or skill and apply it to a career. If you get sent over seas; good luck and make us proud.

I know my views are not popular on the Shroomery. I am largely right wing and in general, don't like the idea of drug abuse.
However, I am proud enough to be truthful about them.

I also requested a Christian funeral and Protestant dog tags.

Good for you.  I was in the Army Infantry for 3 1/2 yrs before I got kicked out.  I loved every min of it... except getting kicked out for weed.  I was in afghan for a yr and got to do some cool shit...  A couple fire fights I was in I was high on hash, but even without the hash there is no greater high then being in a firefight.

I wish you the best and hope you don't get sent to Iraq.. they don't pull triggers they push buttons.

Oh and the war on poppies?  The whole time I was their we seen hundreds of fields and never harmed them. Also seen a lot of weed fields and never harmed them.  Its legal their in case you didn't know.  I was their in '06 though so maybe it has changed...

I am eager for an opportunity to prove myself,
however I still have at least 1.5 years of training ahead of me. I took an interesting trade.

It is a position which I'm hesitant to actually name. However, I will be working with satellite signals, intercepting, sending and decoding.
I will likely end up in the field, posted with an infantry unit.

I attempted to join the infantry but was turned down for medical reasons.

I hope you know that war was bullshit, and that now we have to just make the best of it. If so, great. But I still can't fully respect anyone who WANTS to/and does! join the military. Silly me, I thought (when I was young) that after enough time many people would opt out.

I guess the human need for death and stupidity is too strong though.
Hence we will always have militarization. Sad really....

Not with the US Forces although I could have joined them.
I opted for the CF. They don't get to negotiate their contracts, they have a set one.
