    #10640505 -

went picking today in a spot where I have picked many subs before. saw some that where a bit lighter in colour but still had the characteristics of subs. could someone please help me as to whether they are still subs?
finding less and less as it getting colder. thinking maybe because if the weather they are not as bright in colour

Habitat: Pine Forest outskirts.

Gills: Whitish/greyish colour.

Stem: Whitish, thick.

Cap: Browny yellow, smooth, 1-3 inches in diameter.

Bruising: Blue.

Location: Victoria, Australia

These are the normal subs I have been finding.

Here is the lighter colours I am unsure of.

Thats a sub! Nice find!
Easy way to tell is to pinch the cap and see if it turns blue within a few mins.

thanks guys. always quick and informative replies from the shroomery.
i pick a few subs at this patch but there are always a few there i am weary of as to whether they are active or not.

is the mushroom below a sub? same size and characteristics as a sub, but has a weird colour.

I'm weary of gallerinas and such. It's my first season of picking and I'm still learning the ropes. thanks for your help

also how long do u think will be left in the season? start of august?

Hi hash,

Is the stem blue like the others?
That looks like subaeruginosa to me it just seems to be drying out. This is common and is referred to as hygrophanous.
This is my first season in Victoria but they should be popping up for a couple of months yet. Good luck~

hi karode,
yeah the stem is blue like the others. as ive started drying them out they have started fading in colours like the 2nd mushrooms i posted.

when do you think is the best time to go picking? i went picking after some rain but it was the 3rd hot day, i found maybe 30. where as when i went a month ago i got over 200, and friends got a bucket load.

thanks for the help karode

Best time to pick really is anytime. I went out 2 days after the rain and didn't find anywhere near the amount I found before it. I think things are slowing down, you wont find the amounts that you found at the start of the season. I could be wrong though, this cold spell might encourage another big flush?

Happy Hunting
