Is anyone else following the chaos in Iran?

For those who don't know, Ahmedinejad "won" reelection, against his moderate, reformist opponent, Mir-Hussein Mousavi.  There's increasing evidence of voter fraud, and Iranians are taking to the street:



Reports are coming in that Mousavi has been placed under house arrest.  Some 50-100 fatalities have been reported from the riots.

I know that to some this may seem like business as usual for an authoritarian regime, but I see a movement underway.  The police and Revolutionary Guard may eventually quell the riots and restore order, but I don't think the Iranian people will soon forget this slight against them.  What worries me is that this coup may hasten a violent conflict between Iran and Israel.  But what gives me hope is that the Iranian people are standing up to this injustice.  Some Iranian-American observers have noted that the shouts and chants of the protesters is reminiscent of the language of the Revolution.  This could be big.

the revolutionary guard we outside the polling places to prevent
any observers from 'tampering' with the vote after the polling
stations closed, the turnout was so great that the polls stayed
open 4 extra hours to ensure that everyone cast a ballot

I have a friend in Tehran right now, he says it's not riots, it's
demonstrators and if the guard and the police try to stop it
there's likely to be a serious escalation of violence in the weeks
to come

the totla population of Iran is just over 65 million, they counted
40 million votes totaling just 85% of the vote, are they allowing
the children to vote too?

One of my math professors at university is actually from Iran, he went to the University of Tehran for his undergrad studies.

He knows Ahmadinejad.  They email each other sometimes, I've heard some of the other professors joking on him about it.  He told me that some of the ideas Ahmadinejad mentions to him in the emails are just flat out crazy.

I took a class on Middle Eastern studies in college.  It was very illuminating.  It's quite rewarding to learn about the history and culture of the region.
