Another mycobag question.
    #1046887 - 11/12/02 05:45 PM (14 years, 27 days ago)

So my friend is going to get some mycobags and he is wondering: once the bags are ready to pin does the bag need to be cut open to let the mushrooms grow? If so then it will need to be kept in a dual-chambered, humidified  terrarium right? He has never grown before so please excuse his stupidity. He has read alot of posts concerning bags but is stumped on this part of the growing process.
oh, one more thing. Is the innoculation injection all the moisture that is needed for the first flush? Thanks.

no
>Is the innoculation injection all the moisture that is needed for the first flush?
maybe, if there's condensation on the inside of the bag your fine.

I would case a mycobag, but growing out of a bag or chamber might be good for a beginner if you'd feel more comfortable

if you are just starting, good luck with the bags. they are pretty difficult to keep sterile. i have been having problems. especially getting them sealed. get a good sealer.

I cased 1 bag, and the other bag I cut off, and then put the substrate in a terrarium.

Could he put scott-tape over the little self-healling patch after innoculation? He also has leak-ender2000 but could that contaminate the crop or put weird chemicals in the mushrooms that would be harmfull for consumption?

what's the point of putting tape over the patch?

I think mspacman was talking about bags you've made yourself.

What, those questions are unrelated. From what I'm reading, MsPacMan had problems with sterility, and wanted to seal the bags after cutting them open for harvesting. As for leviathon's post, he was wondering why put tape over the self-healing injector spot, why would there be a need to? It self heals and keeps out contams, including water. If it didn't self heal and keep out contams, what's the point of even having a self-healing injector patch?

sorry i didn't mean to confuse you. i was just saying after they come out of the pressure cooker, i had a hard time sealing them shut. contams always get in. the innoculation goes anywhere on the bag (except the filter patch) then is covered with tape.

it sounds like leviathon bought pre-made bags, because they have a self-healing injector site.

that last post made it seem like you do innoculate through the filter patch, i dont, i think the syringe is too wide to self seal, but whatever.
