Casing from MycoBags...question..?
    #982958 - 10/22/02 03:20 PM (15 years, 3 months ago)

well, i'm glad to say that my MycoBags are about 70% colonized   so, at this point i was thinking about how to fruit.  i was thinking about just leaving it in the mycobag, but i also read about how it lowers your yeild.  so, my question is, do u think i should case the cakes from the mycobags to fruit?  and if so, how should i do this, because i am VERY new to this...thanks!!

Although casing can increase yeilds, there are risks. You may end up with nothing. I suggest fruiting in the bag initially. You can always case after your first harvest when failure won't hurt so much. Good luck.

just do as workman says - get at least one flush in the bag, then you can start playing with it

Or you could let them colonize for another 2-3 weeks and in the mean time make a terraium from a fish tank, put 2 air wands running parallel with each other, then use some geolite, water+H2O2 mix and let them fly. My squirrel used these as his first fruiting chambers and they worked great with any kind of cake. Never had a contam problem either. Pic below is 3 mycobag cakes in the 10 gallon size terraium. The squirrel lost the fruit pics, its been a while since he used these..

Casing a mycobag would be the same as casing cakes or anything else. Break it up into small pieces in the bag, then cut the bag open and then dump the substrate into a tray and case.
