Newbie with a mycobag question
    #881674 - 09/13/02 10:36 AM (14 years, 10 months ago)

A friend of mine's koala went and ordered mycobags and PR syringes from Sporeworks. It's been 11 days and all this little furry critter's seen is some damp sticky coagulation on the bottom of both bags. Meanwgile the GT mycobags (syringe from another vendor) have evident mycelium growth on the bottom after 6 days.

Now the koala knows that every bag takes its time, but he doesnt want the possibility of contamination to be the case. Is the growing dampness a precursor to myselium growth or just dampness?

Also, he was slightly confused by the PR syringe as a first timer and put 4cc's in each PR bag, 2 per GT's (figured things out by then).

Is everything okay with PRs? there's no sign of discoloration, just sticky wet bottoms.

He says thanks for your suggestions and putting up with silly questions.

if it's been 2-3 weeks and it still just looks wet, you've probably got bacteria. If not.. patience.

When I used to use the bags and syringes from sporeworks, I always had a germination issues, sometimes it would take a month to see any growth. When I switched to another syringe vendor, the problems went away.

My cat is having the same problems. It'll be two weeks tomorrow since he innoced with a TC syringe. He SEES no signs of growth, but if he squeazes the bags gently, they are all thorougly squishy. Recently, one of em developed a hard spot in the middle. Could that be mycellium? He's not checking until tomorrow, last time checked was last Friday.

hmm. the funny thing is that the bags still smell fungus-y and gasses are being released because the bags are puffed up somewhat, but there's just nothing happening or anything getting hard anywhere..uh..well, anyway, i emailed sporeworks a while ago and am still waiting for a response.

the good news is that the gt bags are about 70-80% colonized, its only been 13 days!

**update (like anybody cares) sporeworks will replace the bags!!**
