I don't have a cell phone but I do use my camera often, especially when i'm trying to sell something online.

I have 3 digital cameras, a cell phone cam, and 1 full manual 35mm film SLR :shrug:

I wish people would stop substituting cell phone cameras for a real camera. The optics, autofocus, and ccd sensor are mediocre and even if its 7 mega pixels it can still look like crap cause megapixels are just a selling point for non-technical people. I don't care if people have cameras or not but if your going to take a photo might as well do it right.

I couldn't agree more. Cell phone cameras are a fucking joke and it makes me cringe every time I see a cell phone pictar.

I understand if photography interests someone, but if I don't want to take pictures like that what do I need a camera for?

There is a upload pic feature on shroomery that resizes and creates that cool javascript zoom feature.

gumby, the more I read from you the more I realize you're like a slightly older me lol.  I own 3 dslr's, plenty of glass, etc.  I'm all for people having point and shoots instead of slr's though, the learning curve is much steeper for an slr, and unless you're taking more serious photos, no point.  Oh, and all this megapixel talk... they mean nothing.  A nikon d2h is a perfect example, only 4 megapixels and it still looks great.

this is exactly where i'm coming from. i have a few friends that always take pictures when we travel, so i still have access to photos of various places i've been. i hate stopping what i'm doing to take a picture, or even worse to pose for a picture. and i don't really care whether people online see shit that i have.

i do have a pretty high-quality webcam that i use for teleconferencing for work, but i don't really take random pictures with it.

Oh yeah man I totally agree, SLRs are definitely not for everyone. Some of the entry level SLRs like the Nikon 40D or Canon XTi/XSi are alright for someone who is interested in it as a hobby, but point and shoot is the way to go for most people.

I have a secret: all the macro photos I've taken were taken with a Canon SD850 IS point and shoot. I don't have the money for a macro lens for my 30D yet. Some day.

And yes, megapixels doesn't me a damn thing anymore. It's all about quality of the sensor.

gumby, just reverse or couple lenses.  Free if you already have the glass.  A 50mm reversed on a full frame body is 1:1 reproduction, but since you have a crop sensor you're looking at 1.6:1 reproduction.  Feel free to PM me if you need help with that.  1:1 is 36x24mm btw
