It's not really focused either, get something really reflective or at least plain white gloss paper and make a sort of lampshade to focus the light in the general area.

I'd build a small box,, something like this,,



You could leave the front open, or make a removable front and add a fan. Cover the inside with mylar,, :strokebeard:...

I sugest buying a roll of mylar....Dont be fooled by imatation brands...Mylar works best!

Hahahaha. Those cacti look like they're tripping balls from the overkill of a 400w HPS in such a small setup :p

My grow space is 3x4, it's not that small, and the chair is going away once I get hooks and chains to hang the light.

Maybe I should have bought 250w instead of 400w, but they were the same price :undecided:

Hey, sorry to bump this 1 week old thread but I'd like to know if this looks like a good setup? I checked and there's no heat-build up or any overheating.

The light is 2ft above the smaller cacti and 1ft or so from the top of my san pedro. I don't think I need a reflector above the light since I have 400w for such a small space.



And how much time a day should I keep it running? does 8h sound good?

What's your light schedule normally, up to 12/12 would be fine I think.

I usually turn it on in the morning at 7 or so, and turn it off at around 2 or 3pm. So around 7-8h most of the time.

I really need to get a timer so I don't have to wake up at 7 just to turn this on :tongue:

You have 400 watts, I don't think losing even 100 watts makes a difference for you.

no point in wasting light, a reflector is always advisable.
and yeah you want at least a 12/12 light cycle, you could go to 16/8 if you wanted.
when i grew my cacti under lights indoors i split the difference and went for 14/10, which worked fine for my babies :yesnod:
