Can I use a 400w HPS light

I was wondering when the seed is ready to be put in the soil and the plant starts to grow from the begining do i use the HPS 400w light or a different type or wattage of (HPS)

It is pretty easy to burn seedlings using an HPS. Do you have access to some shop lights or cfl bulbs? It would be better to start them under floros until they get bigger. But yes, if you kept the light off of the plants enough you could use an HPS.

Yes you can. Just keep it real far away until the plant gets a foothold

Sure you can, but there's better choices. Compact Fluorescents would be best for you. I'd stay away from the HPS for now since in another post you asked if you needed a ballast for it.

yeah fluorescents work great for starting plants it provides more of the blue spectrum which is needed in vegitative growth.

HPS is very important for flowering as it is more towards the red spectrum. Shop lights/CFLs work just fine for vegitative growth and HPS for flowering. When using fluorescents you need to keep the light as close as possilbe to tops of plants without burning them which is usualy just an inch or so away. otherwise your plants will stretch and grow weak tall and lanky.
