Gummo....Who's seen this fascinating movie?

I'm sure lots of you already have but I just saw this movie recently...A friend put it on while i was coming down from one of the most intense mushrooms trips of my life.

In this elliptical ensemble piece, which marks the directorial debut of indie bad boy Harmony Korine, the teens of tornado-scarred Xenia, OH, kill cats, tape their boobies, arm-wrestle, bathe, cross-dress, huff glue, avoid perverts, pay to have sex with retarded girls, lift makeshift dumbbells to the strains of Madonna's "Like a Prayer," fight, cuss, shave their eyebrows, undergo cancer treatment, euthanize senior citizens, and pee on passing cars. A hallucinatory barrage of images and scenarios with little in the way of traditional plot, Gummo has been variously described as a surrealist joke, a visual poem, and a worm's-eye view of white-trash suffering.

I thought the movie was very fascinating. Loved the way it was filmed, & the non linear aspect of the film. Really makes you feel as if the film makers just walked into this fucked up backwoods community and started to film...

Harmony Korine wrote and directed this, the same guy that did the amazing movie "Kids"....

Highly suggest you watch this if you haven't...

i saw part of this movie, had to turn it off half way through. but i clearly remember the mass murder of cats, and sex with mongoloid prostitutes.

Saw it ages ago, seen it a few times since, I really like it.

Most people I have talked to that have seen it say they hated it.

The kid wearing bunny ears with the "Cock-a-doodle-doo" song playing... that scene is awesome. I really love how it was filmed. This thread is making me want to give it another watch- download time!

I think I'm gonna have to get it on this fact alone: 'the soundtrack features black metal bands such as Absu, Burzum, Bathory, and the German Bethlehem. Also features other metal bands like Brujería, Sleep, Eyehategod and power violence band Spazz.'

I fucking hate that movie. Seriously. I think I made a thread a few years ago about how it was the worst movie ever made. I watched the first 45 minutes, turned it off, and returned that shit to the video store.

Maybe that was the same one where people warned about the movie.

I got the impression that it isn't something you dive right into on a whim during a trip. Some people aren't going to like it, others will not be prepared.

Yeah I just watched it last night and made it until 10 min to the end before I had to FF and just say fuck it.  It was annoying to watch and put me in a bad mood.  Fuck that movie.

It kind of done the same thing to me (I guess made e feel apathetic. Definitley grinding and annoying to watch. This is also kind of why I liked it.

Ah I felt like I had to take a shower after watching this film. Hell, I didn't even finish all of it because I had to turn it off after the depressed white dude tried to kiss the black midget. :confused:
