What are some good movies that give....

... unique cultural perspectives? Like American History X or SLC Punk or something. I really like these type of movies, but can't really find some like that...

Se7en is a great film,, not sure about cultural perspectives but still one of the best films ever made..

City of god is about drug dealers in Rio de Janiero. Really brutal stuff.

Amores Perros is hard to describe. If you've ever seen Babel or 21 Grams (same writer/director) you know the style. Put simply, it's about mexican life and underground culture, although that description does it no justice. It's probably in my top 3 movies of all time. Go watch it.

Seven Years in Tibet? I liked that movie quite a bit... I'm also interested in what other movies are similar to that and the ones you listed. Requiem for a Dream is pretty good but hella depressing...

Human traffic's great. It's funny,, but you get the whole beginning/middle/end of a night feeling all in one film...
It's a must watch.

Ok... now it is very important that you remember the title of this movie... it is incredible and is everything you are looking for. It is called GUMMO.

Directed by a Harmony Korine... also the director of a film called KIDS... it is a documentaryish style movie based in Xenia, OH. You will really enjoy this... but I must insist that you watch it while intoxicated on some psychedelic. While mildly disturbing, it will blow you away and make you laugh. I have purchased this movie 3 times and I think each time someone has ran off with it because I show it to all my friends... you can find it at most movie stores.

It is well worth the time...

Check out "Where the Buffalo Roam."

It's the first movie that was made about the life of Hunter S. Thompson.

Most people have heard of "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas," but I think this movie is also excellent and provides a great look at an era drastically different from ours.
