umbilicus-phobia ??
    #10112116 -

I don't like anyone to touch my belly button. I feel like vomiting if someone touches the inside of it and I've had reoccurring dreams that it opened and my insides come flooding out through my belly button opening. I clean it every time i shower or bath but am very careful not to agitate it.I also can't stand the thought of it being unclean.

I feel like it will open if people touch it and i will die.

It's a phobia that i can't find a diagnosed case of. I've checked lists of phobia's and can't find it, I guess if it had a name it'd be umbilicus phobia?

I know it's an irrational fear but it doesn't help with my paranoia towards it.
Am I alone?

Could be OCD rather than a phobia?

Is it just your belly button, how are you with other people's belly buttons?

the only way i know of to get over phobias is to desensitize yourself towards them. not necessarily drastically, but gradually work up to the point where you let other people touch your belly button, and after enough times of it occurring without negative repercussions, your unconscious mind will have a different reaction. seriously - this is too irrational a fear to let it bother you - have some courage to eventually let people start touching it.

If I push in on my belly button I get a really gross feeling in my stomach. No phobia though, I am more worried about hernias myself since those are actual holes in your abdominal wall. I heard they start off looking like a mole ( usually around your belly button) and your guts can go through this.

you should go to the doctor and have them check you out. That way you'll know your healthy and not have to worry about your moles, unless you get a new one and then you can check with the doctors again.

Did any sort of trauma(mental,Pysical, sexual, social) happen to you as a kid involving your belly button or belly button area? and I mean ANYTHING you could think of that would relate to that.

a couple years ago i would wake up with small cuts all over my hands. I couldnt figure out how i was getting them but one night I dreamt that I had a pair of scissors and was starting to stab myself in the stomache (above my belly button) i remember in my dream i had told myself to stop and put the scissors under my pillow instead. I woke up the next morning and after a few seconds my nights dreams flooded back into my mind. I looked at my stomache and i had a small cut and then i looked under my pillow and the scissors were really there. Since then this phobia of my stomache started becoming stronger.

this can only mean one thing... your belly's hungry. and it wants some scissors. maybe talk to a psychiatrist? before something serious happens..

I've heard about other people having weird "phobias" like this.  One of my friends will flip shit if you touch her face.  She won't even touch her own face except for hygienic purposes...  More interesting though is a friend I have that gets physically ill if she even looks at the inside of someone's wrist (where the veins are).  It's really odd.

So you're probably not alone.  But you should work on fixing it.

Belly buttons are weird though.  I don't like touching mine really.

talking to someone is probably a good idea. Since then i haven't really engaged in conscious or unconscious self harm.

If your body is getting involved in some subconscious self mutilation I really think you should go see someone. Are you sure nothing happened to you that you might have forgoten? Did you ever have wierd hangups with your stomach in general before you started doing that? Were you overweight as a kid?
