Another occasion me and some friends went to a house party and basically 5 minutes in cops show up, with nothing to drink they made us sit there for 2 hours anyways then ordered me and my friend to go outside and change their tire cause they drove over a nail when they pulled in. He didnt ask he simply walked in and pointed to me and my friend and said "You and You, outside with me!" ANOTHER time is when my truck broke down on the side of an Interstate and i had no cell phone i watched 2 state troopers and a sheriff drive right passed me an and my GF. So all im trying to say the authorities here are shit and it makes me sick.


Probably cause you looked like a felon to the cop. You even said you were scared as sh*t, you think he can't pick up on that?

Good story though, i've had numerous ones though only one involving a cop. We just told him that we drove 500 feet back in the woods so no one would mess with our car, then went for a nice stroll in the middle of nowhere 30 miles away from our houses cause we are "bored"...

I mean what can he do? We didn't have anything on us, everythings in order as it should be.

Anyone who hasn't seen this video needs to watch it - Why you should never talk to the police, even if you are innocent. 




:thumbup:  Excellent video.  Unless you can afford a vacation (conviction) a person needs to watch this.  A half hour video is worth the cost of jail time.

If it is a normal traffic stop, what should be a person's course of action?

I also suggest practicing the line, "Are you detaining me or am I free to go?"  It's easy to get addled when talking to "the man."

that shit happened to me before but i just hid in the field and they dont really know about mushroom hunting around here so the cop didnt stop to investigate my car.

There is no form of prohibition that works.

If people want to use meth, coke, and heroin they should be able to.  If they do something else illegal (violence, stealing) then arrest them for that.

As long as there is drug prohibition there will be drug related violence and the injustice of having lots of people sit in jail just because their drug of choice isn't one of the approved ones.

I sure don't want my tax dollars spent on locking up crack heads.  Prisons are already overcrowded.

Also remember that meth, coke and heroin are legal if a doctor prescribes them.  So you go to prison if you think you need it, but if the doctor thinks you need it then you can get the same substance from the pharmacy.


Very insightful and true, Alan. Isn't it amazing the irony of our country's cultural stigmatization of drugs. Rx good- anything else- bad.  Do we not realize that for the entire existence of human beings, there were no standardized medicines, until the last 100 years. What did people do for the other 15,000 when their head hurt, or they were sick, or needed to relax? Certainly not pay 150 dollars to go get a "doctor" to give them a piece of paper that "allows" them to obtain a medicine. They most likely went to the local apothecary or shaman, and followed a series of natural medicines/plants/elixirs recommended. The current state of the medical community/pharmaceutical industry is draconian, and our government only enables more ignorance.

GREAT THREAD!!! Caseyroy, great post. I'm in Pinellas, so it's nice to finally see a good Florida thread up. Until the last day or two, it has been extremely dry here, so that definitely does suck that you lost a good wet field. They are few and far between here right now.  Glad you didn't get locked up!

Nice story. You really need to break up those large blocks of text. It makes for a hard read.


I usually get dropped off in situations like yours. Bringing a couple of friends wouldn't hurt. 1 to drop you off & one to go in the field with you & help keep watch. Its hard to keep watch while walking around , looking at the ground..

Act as normal as possible as long as the stop stays normal.  Before the cop walks up to the window make sure everyone in the car can agree on where they just were and where they are heading.  If the stop seems like it should be over, ask if you can leave.  If the questioning gets invasive, shut up and tell the cop you are in a hurry to get to XYZ and don't have time to shoot the breeze all day.

They do hundreds of these stops every month, you just want to blend in with all the others.

I used to have an old, suspicious car and I've been pulled over literally hundreds of times.  Its never been anything other than where are you going, where you coming from, heres your ticket, etc.  A couple times when I was a teenager they lied and said they smelled pot but I saw right through that and didn't admit to anything.

There isn't much to investigate if there is just a car there and no one to harass about it.

In that case they can look through your windows or keep driving, thats about it.

Thanks.  We don't have many traffic stops where I live, but sometimes when I am traveling I run into them.

Do you think it is ok to ask the cop questions?  The last time I was pulled over the cop asked me if I knew why he pulled me over.  I said, "No."  Would that constitute talking to the police?  I would imagine silence at that point would just piss them off.

It's ok to answer "no" when asked by a cop "if you know why you were pulled over?". However, if you refuse to say anything at all to the cop, you can be arrested for "failure to cooperate" with law enforcement. In most instances it is a misdemeanor resulting in fines once you are processed (depending on the situation). At most you'll get fines and jail time lasting no more than a year and a day.

  I know a guy who was arrested in Missouri for failure to cooperate with the cops during a felony investigation and he received the year and a day plus a fine of $2,500. Of course, he also refused to cooperate with the judge too so that might have been why he got the year and a day.

No thats not true, not cooperating is what you are supposed to do!

Being questioned by the police is a voluntary and rather unpleasant experience that can only get you into more trouble, never less. 

They can't arrest you for using your right to remain silent. 

The only people who should talk to the police beyond the usual traffic stop banter are ones that are looking for free room & board in jail.

"Failure to cooperate with a law enforcement officer" does not apply in most situations because the 5th ammendment says the government can not make you incriminate yourself.

I think if I had refused to answer he would have charged me with two "crimes": not wearing my seatbelt and illegal merging.  I have no problem standing up for my rights but if it's just traffic citation banter I would probably say no again.

It takes a special person to be a cop.  You have to be an asshole.

The important part is knowing when to shut up.  That type of experience usually comes from saying too much to the police and getting to court and finding that due to the things you said your lawyer has no way to get you out of the charges. 

Once it turns from normal talking into questioning, its time to invoke your right to silence.  Thats what any cop would do.  They know how the system works and they never consent to questioning.
