Greenhouse or monotubs
    #9944942 -

I have looked in to both and it seems as though both are good options. I have the space for either option. One problem i was thinking about with the monotubs is the RH in my grow area. It is very dry. I thought about just running a humidifier in the area but i don't know if that would be enough. Does anyone have any opinions or thoughts for which way i should go?
Thanks

PF Tek. Pound for pound its superior. Perlite will help you keep your RH high.

PF-tek is great for beginners. But after you have tried some other methods you will realize monotubs lc's and grains are the way to go..Since you have the space why don't you try both!! set up a monotub and a shotgun style FC and see which one suits you better..Oh and the humidifier will be money well spent!!

greenhouse

monotubs

it different strokes for different folks.
monotubs and greenhouses both are very effective.
sometimes in the winter when its dry out like to run a humidifier
in the macro environment around my fc.

I have done PF-tek with nice results I'm looking to go bulk using grains. I was think of building sort of a martha set up out of pvc piping and plastic sheeting. I have a shotgun FC that I plan on keeping. I usually us lc to inoculate. Is there any noticeable difference between a monotub or trays fruited in a martha set up? And about the humidifier cool mist or ultrasonic?

Hey Deaddog, I have seen this coffee mentioned in several posts, is it all they say it is? what does it do for the mycelium? Currently I am spawning to rye, colonizing verm, coir, and oyster shell. trying expan unpon this method. any input would be great.

people rock the Vick's v400 cool mist. some people pipe it in to there
greenhouse some put it on the bottom shelf
when i make my custome fc with pvc and sheet plastic its going
to be fairly large so i think i am going with this tek on a smaller
scale maybe a five gallon bucket and a air mattress pump

it adds nitrogen to the substrate

GH is more hands on, lots more fun to grow in one of those.  but you have to keep them more than halfway full (full is best) to get consistent high humidity.
small monotubs are effective and easy.  dont get carried away and try useing 30gal tubs or something.  just make a number of nice smaller sized tubs and you will be very pleased.
better yet, get some filter patch bags and grow invitro.

aful is correct nitrogen, also add crushed/powdered seashells, they add calcium and help to nullify the acid in the coffee.

Should I than soak my grains in coffee and than proceed with the normal tek?

you got it, also add a bit of gypsum to the soak, it ensures an even uptake of water into the grains.

yeah you would soak your grains in 1/2 h2o 1/2 regular coffee
here are some of rrs notes on the subject the first like about
coffee is kinda old.

*I suggest a bit of hydrated lime if you're soaking in weak coffee, due to the acidity of the coffee. Use no more than a teaspoon for 2 gallons of soak water. If you're soaking in plain water, skip the lime. Use one tablespoon of gypsum per gallon of soak water, regardless of how much grains are in it. GRAINS SOAKING

*Yes. Mix it weak. About half or less the normal drinking strength. Add it hot. Use hot water for the rinse and add hot coffee later. The heat prevents the grains from germinating during the soak. COFFEE SOAKING GRAINS

*As I said above, it isn't necessary to use long soak times with rye or wbs. If rye is used/PC'd before it starts to ferment, I actually like the scent. GRAINS SOAKING

*Yes. I add coffee to grains, partly to lower the pH. Mushroom mycelium grows fastest at pH about 5.5 to 6.5. COFFEE SOAK

*If you use too much coffee, it will actually slow down growth. COFFEE SOAK
*Use weak liquid coffee to soak your grains AFTER rinsing them in hot tap water. Rinse before the soak, not after. Once you've soaked in water or weak coffee, bring the soak water to a boil with the rye in it. It's all described in the tek posted above, and also on the video. I've used coffee grinds in grains, but there's little benefit. It's better as a substrate ingredient. GRAINS COFFEE SOAK

Ok, now I'm a little confused with what RR is saying, is he saying to bouil the grains in the weak coffee or to soak them in coffee?

first you rinse your grains in hot water to get all the dirt and what not out. after the water runs clean you fill the bucket or what ever you soak your grains in with 1/2 water 1/2 weak coffee solution. add
1 hydrated lime per two gallons of soak solution to correct ph.
let that soak 24 hours then bring to a boil.
strain and let dry a little then fill your jars.
i hope this helps.
