The Nature of Relationship
    #9940350 -

In your eyes isit best to go looking for relationships or to simply accept graciously what comes your way?

I've noticed that the most fulfilling relationships in life are the ones that life brings about spontaniously & not the ones i plan or strive to acheive.

At times its almost like life is throwing up constant possibilities in my face saying "come on, here it is, come get me!" but i simply don't have the drive to 'go get it', yet at other times out of nowhere something will just happen inside & compell me to go & start a new relationship with someone.

Whats your view on this?

If you look too hard then everything runs away, if you dont look at all...

:peace:

No particular relationship is eternal as all things pass, yet the nature of relationship itself is eternal as there will always be multiplicity & the enjoyment of the bliss of unicity.

In many relationships comes a timeless moment of eternal love where we say "i will love you forever", in that moment its actually the same one saying to itself, we are always one, forever

Good post except IMO for the eternal bit, nothing is eternal including mankind. Perhaps the Tao is eternal but i don't think the Tao cares.

To say the Tao does not care is to give it quality, what is eternal can have no quality, if it did have quality then it could not be eternal, as whatever has quality will eventually lose that quality with time...can the infinite lose or gain anything?

Interesting question. I often think we choose partners who fit into our dysfunctional ways of relating as much as to our strengths. So one might be choosing based on whatever makes us feel safe or looks most like what we believe is good.

So just maybe the person who just shows up might be slightly more advantageous. I'm not sure there is a way to really know.

Saying the tao does not care is not giving it a quality. It's saying it doesn't have a certain quality. A more accurate thing would be to say; it does not care, or anything else. In other words it is without quality. Aren't you the one giving it a quality by saying it is eternal?

I don't know whether the Tao is eternal, infact i know nothing. Everything we see is coloured in subjectivity. This is unescapable.

what quality does foreverness have?

if everything that appears will one day disappear, then straight away you can say that everything you have ever seen or will see is not eternal, so what is eternal must have no quality

if the drive is there to discover that eternal principle then priority will only be given to that, not to what you see & only what you see can be prooven

eternity has the quality of being eternal. If you can't grok that then you aren't thinking IMO.

yes but what is eternal?
what quality does that which is eternal actually have?

you can think about it & say its timeless etc...but is this the experience of the eternal or just thinking about it?

only experience will do, otherwise its utterly pointless!
otherwise its just an imaginary concept in your head

'the tao than can be spoken is not the eternal tao'

for me infinity is not a concept

The body and the consciousness have very different motivations.  Love is expressed by the consciousness through the physical vehicle.  The body interprets this as sexuality. A lot of people chase after whatever the body wants to boink...  I think of it as learning how to walk the dog.  Once you have "it" under control you shouldn't have to keep it on a leash anymore.

When dealing with the "relationship" thing it is healthy to not allow your dick to determine your actions.  That being said, it is important to use it "harmoniously".

What I mean to say is that my love for my girl is definitely there when I am tripping on Ayahuasca; in spite of the fact that my penis is then "shut off".

If you love her with and without the involvement of your genitalia, then it's for real!

Nature is eternal.
Nature is perfectly balanced.

"Unicity" is a new one for me; that's a nice bit of vocabulary expansion.

I maintain no semblance of it with anyone on a regular basis, so I suppose the latter of the two choices is the one I make, though perhaps I have the tendency to push the possibilities away with aloofness or non-contribution, retracted observation.

Aloneness seems more freeing, relationships more transitory and less attached, focused on information, analysis, silent observation, more conceptual and abstract maybe, but it does produce a certain flavor of ecstasy as everything else streams by, leaving me in bodiless awe of it all.

That said, I'm sure relationships are valuable and worth exploring. Beware of the desperate, though.

Here's some mathematics to think about.

Lets say X is all of the knowledge that can possibly be known.

Lets say Y is all of the knowledge human beings have acquired.

Therefore, an accurate example of how much we know would be Y/X.

Now, there is a problem with Y and X in this sense. We have a good idea what Y is, but X is infinite. Therefore, what does Y amount to?

Its a limit. As Y grows, X remains infinite. No matter how much we know, it will never exceed 0.

What a strange paradox! Every warrior on the path of knowledge thinks, at one time or another, that he's learning sorcery, but all he's doing is allowing himself to be convinced of the power hidden in his being, and that he can reach it. I don't believe that X is infinite, at least not regarding scientific knowledge. If you know how everything works from the planck scale to the universe as a whole, then you know pretty much all there is to know.

so you are saying that by knowing what point A and point B is, you know what the entire journey from point A to point B is going entail?
