Puts you right on the reptiles page. They have a full screen terrarium setup comes with lights and everything for 100 bucks on that site.I think i might buy some mealworms off that site (500 for $14 shipped sounds like a good deal).Says they will live if refrigerated so worth a shot?

As i was saying, im having humidity problems. So... here is my solution.

If it gets too high, hopefully it will make it cooler aswell, cause i have another basking lamp and would love to have both on one side and nice n humid on the other.

Was thinking of running it on a timer, to have it turn on around 9PM and build humidity all night, then shut off again in the morning.Good idea? That way he could bask all day and be humid at night!

What do you think?

Man I have been thinking a lot lately about putting a reptile in my room and this topic may have given me the answer. This Water Dragon looks like it'd be an awesome friend to put in my room.

He needs a big tank... and if its small and glass he will deff beat the shit out of his nose cause he cant tell the glass is there no matter how many times he runs into it. He really hated the small tank.

I will definitely keep it in mind and if I cannot swing the cost now I will definitely save a spot in my future for a Water Dragon!

Gumby knows his shit

Gumby convinced me to get a leopard gecko and I am very happy with him. I just got another leopard gecko.

I have this advice: Use craigslist for supplies (and reptiles for adoption). You can often pick up a really large aquarium or terrarium at a very low price. You might even be able to come across some supplies of a previous reptile owner that is no longer into the hobby.

If you want something easier to keep that is a little more practical take a look at Bearded Dragons, and Leopard and/or Fat-Tailed geckos. Those are the best for beginners, IMHO. And they don't need high humidity, don't tend to be very aggressive (water dragons can be feisty if not handled enough). Plus they don't need ginormous non-glass walled enclosures.

You might want to get one of those ultrasonic fogger things. They make them for reptile tanks and vivariums produce a fog effect over water.

This is what I'm talking about: http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=6016+6021+8822&pcatid=8822

Put that in a bigger water bowl and it will look awesome and keep the humidity up.

Been lookin at those, and even if i got one i would put it in the bottle i have now and run a tube into the aquarium...i dont trust that thing enough to not shock my guy. I heard the fog makes everything turn to mildew.i dunno. My makeshift deal isnt doin a damn thing, i dunno why it works for other ppl? The lights just turned off so maybe in a little it will go up, if so then thats fine with me if its just high at night and early morn. He is sleeping on his log even though the light went out, i dont think he knows there is a heatpad underneath his hiding spot.Im sure he will find it once he gets too cold and moves around

listen to gumby, he seems to know his shit, the fog maker wont hurt a thing. A water dragon needs high humidity, Not 100 percent but high none the less. the fogger he suggest works well, i use it with my bithrops arboreal vipers. they work well. and they wont cause any problem from the high humidity as long as there is proper Fae, if its sealed off of course it will. but with a screen lid it will expel enough to keep it from molding up, it only creates a fog and not heavy droplets of water on the substrate or items in the cage.

So... i was reading forums and again they bitched about foggers making everything soaking ass wet and talking about how the water level goes too low then it shuts off and humidity drops, also how the lights turn on when the level drops and i dont really need some big red LED scaring my dragon everytime the water goes low. So read this guy saying he loved his Tropic-aire air exchanger. So i ebay this shit and its like 20 bucks and so i go to their site to check it out more. Its like...the same exact thing i built...only it has a sponge. Why isnt mine working? Do i need to put a bigass sponge in it?I dont get it...

I think those kind of things are made for tanks with glass tops. You're having issues with humidity because you have a screen top and it's dry as shit in the winter. I was having the same issues with my Tokay gecko's tank. I put cling wrap over one half of the 10 gallon and that fixed the problem.

But I think a fogger on a timer would be best for you, because a 55 is a big ass tank. Finding out how long the intervals for turning the fogger on/off will take some tinkering, but I think that's your best bet in the set up you have. Just keep and eye on the water level, you usually have to top off a fogger tub once a day.

A very good friend bought one of these years ago, from a regular pet store. This being so, and not having any internet to turn to for advice at the time, we only had the salespersons advice to raise this little scampering creature. It was tiny, so much so that it would cling to your thumb, and look tiny in comparison. Still had the little mark from the umbicillus in the egg.

So, we bring him home, and set him up in a fairly big homemade terrirum, warm lights, live plants, water bowl, places to escape the lights.
It would only take the tiniest of crickets by hand, and seemed to be
getting weaker every day. At the end, we found it drowned in the water bowl. AFter doing what we should have done previously, we came into information that stated that baby chinese water dragons main source of water for ingestion is dew off of leaves, as opposed to a basin/river/stream. Just for the memory of an old pet, try to make sure your little guy is getting enough water. Mabye a natural rock formation with many depressions could be used for the water collection, something like that. Good luck, I hope his nose gets better!

Welcome to the shroomery :smirk:

He has a big pool to swim in, and the little water bowl as well. Most of the time he will go over to his little bowl and stick his head down in it and chug water, then climb in and chill out in there for a bit. He has deff been drinking out of his bowl and i can see he pissed all overtop of his cave...but thats a good thing just so i know he is still going to the bathroom.

I had a lizard that only licked dew off of leaves. I didn't know any better and left a bowl of water for it (the other ones drank from that). Eventually the lizard got really dehydrated and emaciated but I figured out that a dropper on the leaves did the trick.

What size is your aquarium? They make glass tops (some fold) for pretty cheap, especially for 10 gallon aquariums. Or even a regular aquarium top may do the trick, if you don't mind purchasing another light fixture. I remember the humidity got pretty high when I used an aquarium top.

You can also ask an art frame store to cut you a piece of glass to your specs. It shouldn't cost much at all.
