One of the child actors who starred in the Oscar-winning flick "Slumdog Millionaire" received a severe beating from his dad today after the 10-year-old star refused to be put on display like a trophy.

Less than a week after strutting down the red carpet in Los Angeles, actor Azharuddin Mohammed was slapped and kicked by his dad Ismail, The London Sun reported today on its Web site.

"I was very sorry that I did what I did," he said afterward.

"I was so confused and stressed by my son's homecoming that I did not know myself for a minute. I love my boy and I am very happy to have him home."

The ugly fight - which lasted less than a minute - broke out this morning in the Dharavi slum in Mumbai, the same impoverished section of the city where the film was shot.

Little Azharuddin, who had been given a day off school, was tired after his long flight Thursday from Hollywood.

When Azharuddin refused to be put on display outside his home so neighbors could gawk at him, his father lashed out - kicking, then slapping him across the face.

His mother cried out for him to stop, but Ismail continued to dish out the corporal punishment, the newspaper reported.

Azharuddin even stood up to his dad - which only angered the 45-year-old even further, witnesses told the newspaper.

"It was like a scene out of Slumdog Millionaire," one onlooker told the newspaper.

The fight ended when Azharuddin cowered in a corner and cried.

"Azharruddin's father was upset that he was asking to be left alone because he was tired," said the witness. "He didn't attend school today so that he could recover from his long flight from LA and simply wanted all the attention to stop."

I'm surprised people enjoyed that film as a feel-good.
Whenever I hear about it I just think about the kids who are still 'slumdogs' and will be for the rest of their lives.

For once I'd like to see a film that comes out of India that doesn't have a musical dance scene.
