Strange thing * 1
    #985744 - 10/23/02 04:22 AM (21 years, 10 months ago)

Okay, this morning I had a dream that I was sitting in my house and I notice this african looking guy staring at me through the window. I mean really scowling at me. He seems to be a recurring thing...a while ago I had a dream that I did something to him by accident (can't remember what exactly, but at the time he said that i would "pay" for what I'd done)..anyway, so I go outside and ask him what he wants. He says he has put a curse on me. He says "You're going to have to live very carefully from now on...Eventually you will lose your attention, and when you do, YOU WILL DIE a very painful death" At that point I woke up and the center of my field of vision was crawling with kind of what looked like black "worms" of some kind. That's just how they look. It lasted for about 10 seconds, and then faded away. I was completely awake, and apparently hallucinating this strange thing. My eyes hurt too.

It's not the first time I've had this visual phenomena happen after waking from a bad dream. It's happened twice before, always after a very real and frightening dream. They have been the same kinds of dreams...they had the exact same "feel".

Any thoughts? Is this a common thing?

Cant say Ive experienced anything like that myself. What was your initial gut reaction as to what this dream was about? the initial reaction is normally the most accurate. He sounds like a scary dude though! might be worth sending him some energy from your heart chakra - maybe that will mellow him out a little!

I agree with Gazzbutt. Send with loving, apologetic energy. Whatever you "did" to him on accident, him cursing you is only increasing his karmic load. Clear the load completely... on both sides.

Forget the "send him some love" bit.

Next time you see him, tell him to fuck off... he's ruining your dream. And you're having a hard time paying attention with his peepin' ass.

Fucking voodoo people...

I'm with sclorch on this one..... its your dream. Its your world. He is you. You really do have complete control over him.

Next time you see him he'll turn into an elf and run inside with a bag of psychedelic gifts for you. Next time you see him he'll turn into an elf and run inside with a bag of psychedelic gifts for you. Next time you fall asleep, bring a gun with you so you can shoot him in the face if you see him in your dream again.

Actually there's an explanation for that worms thing..  I have this psychology book from this course I took back when I was in school..  it's just a assumption but I think it fits into place... (PS - I've had that worms thing happen to me too)

Once you fall asleep, you have a REM period right when you fall asleep. Through the night, REM Periods occur roughly every 90 minutes with each REM lasting longer than the previous one. blah blah blah see figure 6.1 blah blah Note that REM periods come during the times when we are not in deep sleep. Also notice that as the night progresses, sleep gets lighter. The chances are that the dreams you remember are those coming closest to the morning since they are the longest, have occured most recently, and you are the closest to being awake when you have them.
*flips ahead to the section on nightmares*
Nightmares are more likely to happen when people have missed REM periods for a day or so from drinking to much alcohol or not getting enough sleep.  The reason nightmares appear then is that if REM is blocked, REM rebound occurs. REM rebound refers to the fact that the first time we go to sleep after being deprived of REM, both the length and the number of dreams increase (rebound) dramatically to make up for the loss.  Hence, the chances of having unpleasant dreams increase.  In general, however, we have no evidence that nightmares indicate something is wrong with the person. ...blah blah... And despite what you've heard, nightmares are NOT caused by eating something strange. (personal insert: Magic mushrooms perhaps?)

Here's where the explanation kicks in:
INCUBUS ATTACKS
The second frightening experience during sleep is another kind of dream that you may have been lucky enough to avoid. It is called and incubus attack, from the Latin meaning "to have a devil on your back."  These are horrible dreams that are quite vivid and real.
What makes them so awful is that the incubus attack occurs during NREM sleep (non-REM), not REM.  The body knows that a regular dream is coming every 90 minutes and prepares for it, but the body is caught completely unprepared by an unpleasant dream that gets triggered during NREM.  The physical overload it causes sets off major bodily changes.  Breathing rate zooms upward, the person feels choked, heart rate takes off to an unbelievable 170-plus beats a minute.  These events create a feeling of panic and fear of dying.  The sleeper usually springs up in bed, sweating, nauseated, and afraid.  Since the body, which is unprepared, NREM is so much closer to reality than REM, we "know" it is "not" a dream, and it's too much to handle

I'd like to propose a little theory I've made myself as to the whole "worm" thing, which I leave open for correction to those who know otherwise.  After waking up from an incubus attack, your body goes from the deepest form of sleep to awakeness in a matter of milliseconds, which would cause some, for lack of a better term, lag[i/], for your brain to get its bearings and organized.  If you close your eyelids and push on the sides of your eyes (GENTLY) with your index fingers for a few seconds, you will start to notice weird things in your vision that aren't supposed to be there.  I feel that this is a similar effect, except that rather than it being forced by pressure, it's just your brain re-adjusting to the optical input which was completely unexpected.

Well...thats what I was looking for, some kind of explanation. Thank you.

Nightmares are more likely to happen when people have missed REM periods for a day or so from drinking to much alcohol or not getting enough sleep.

Yes! In fact, this morning I was so hungover that I called in sick for work. What I experienced definately seems to have all the hallmarks of this Incubus Attack thing. I think your right to link the visuals caused by pressure on the eye to this "worm" thing...that would explain why my eyes hurt when I woke up..maybe also the fact that I was maybe screwing my eyes tightly shut or darting my eyes to the side (in an effort to avoid this dude's FACE!). Yeah baby! Probaly a mixture of the physical strain and the sudden change of optical input as you say.

Of course, that doesn't mean that I don't have this voodoo shaman guy out to get me on the astral plane as well..

Actually I think you mis-interpreted the incubus thingie - the way *I* understood it was that if you're mad ass drunk one night, you'll have an incubus attack the NEXT day as a result of REM Rebound... although the alcohol coulda damn well sent you for a loop... PM me if this keeps happening.. I'd be interested in the details.

Well i mean I didn't sleep so well 2 night before, and this did happen in the morning, so that was efffectively a couple of nights with little REM...

Anyway, this kind of thing happens to me quite a lot. I actually had another 2 dreams that I can remember this morning, but they are so weird that I don't even want to talk about them.

In the sending of loving energy I also consider to be devoid of fear, thus telling them to fuck off could also be considered a viable option as that is generally a non-fear state.

I think everyone is to be congratulated on the wonderful and diverse replies and for trying to help Revelation work through this.

I wish I would have had this board to rely on when I used to encounter things like this.

Back then the only thing I could think to do was to prop my eyes open with toothpicks and keep hitting my thumb with a hammer so I wouldn't fall asleep.  These ideas are much better.

One always needs to consider the psychic balance of the universe before making too drastic a decision.

Nice to see you posting btw.  I was wondering if you guys were EVER coming back!

Cheers,

When Zarathustra was sleeping under a tree, a snake came along and bit him in the neck. Upon seeing whom she had attacked, the snake tried to sneak away. But Zarathustra, being hurt by the snake, woke up and said: "Wait, little snake, let me show you my gratefulness. I have a long way before me. Thank you for waking me up!" "Your way won't be too long", the snake replied. "My bite is poisonous."

"A snake cannot kill a dragon", Zarathustra smiled. "But you should not waste your poison on me."

And the snake came back and licked Zarathustra's wound.
