Bad Idea. I ate too many mushrooms last night. Level 5 whatever. I almost died. My fingers swelled up. I cold sweated, I whined. I forgot to breathe 3 times, I didnt know what was real, if I was plastic, if I even existed. I cant remeber most of it. Thats damm scary and I will NEVER trip that hard again. 24 hrs later is now and I can still feel the effects. Please be careful and prepared.

Blue shroom, sorry to hear about your experience. Out of curiousity, how much did you take? It sounds like you had some nasty bodily effects going on. Those tend to be worse than the mental aspects. Thanks for the warning.

Take a look at the thread in the Spirituality
forum called "ego the false center". I put
a trip report in there. I must of taken
10+ Grams for that very weird (mostly weird for people reading it  ) voyage.

Anyway, for me the main difference of a low
and high dose trip is; the higher dose trips
are usually completely internal, meaning
the whole experience was with eyes closed.
( I was not tired but my eyes kept on wanting
to shut)and most of the high dose trips that I have are usually scary to me at one point. So I would suggest preparing well for your trip:

I would read The Psychedelic Experience a few times before your trip and
even read the 'poem' part during your trip.

and

Meditating alot the days prior to the trip
will also help you.

Tell us how it turns out.

Later,

Sweet, I was planning on reading the Psychedelic Experience again, since I found it on your home page. I am also reading The Way of the Shaman by Michael Harner which is pretty interesting so far. I go to a Buddhist college so I am sort of forced to meditate (very good thing). I'm probably going to take all the mushrooms I have, which I am guessing is around seven grams. I'll definitly report back. By the way Strange Days, that peeing story is funny as hell. Maybe funny isn't the right word, but it must have been something to behold. Much love.

timothy leary did a tao te ching rendering called _psychedelic prayers_ (but i still like jane english's version...)
(and the "doors of perception" quote originated with william blake over 200 years ago, i think... ...)

english mystic poet visionary artist late 1700s, illustrated and printed his own books of cosmic visions, unusual version of christianity from this seer's fevered brow (he also shows up in orson scott card's alternate history america in the alvin maker series...) if you do a yahoo or google search i betcha you can get a glimpse of some of blake's illuminated manuscripts...

oh and the "doors of perception" was the title for aldous huxley's report on his mescaline experiment from the mid 1950s... often published nowadays with "heaven and hell-a voyage to the antipodes of the mind", but for a land to visit, try his lovely last novel, _island_ which is filled with advice for living, dying, tripping, paying attention, being aware... enjoy
oh another--- alan watts _the joyous cosmology_ is a wow, and the text is avasilable online (but those pictures in the hard copy are just vibrant...)

I have noticed a relationship with a level 4 and 5 trip, and the extremeties swelling, as with blu shrooms fingers swelling. I have noticed this corelation with past incidents of "overdose", and swelling of the wrist, hand and fingers is not uncommon. Any comments?

I did a bad level five the other day. It was my fault because I was in a bad (anxious) mood that evening. Usually level fives are just really cool experiences...

If you subscribe to Leary's ideas, then the advice which I suggest you take most seriously concerning getting the most of a level 5 trip is the idea of Set & Setting. The short of it is that Set is your mind (mind-set) and all of the personal baggage you have stored within it. Your Setting is obviously, where you are. Setting is what is typically changed, altered or adjusted before a trip in order to facilitate change within your Mind Set. Leary suggests A non-clinical setting which you are familiar with (Your home, a good friend's home) or has comforting qualities. Candlelight or firelight is often employed. Seclusion of the setting is often desirable as level 4 & 5 trips can become very vocal and must take into consideration that ones screaming, crying, yelling and otherwise raising hell, will almost certainly give rise to undesirable situations with nonparticipants (e.g polic, neighbors, parents). Soothing or calming music (Ravi Shankar is my personal favorite) is also reccomended as a link to reality and as a subconscious tranquilizer. But not only these ambient features, but also people there to help you. Leary suggests people upon varying level of consciousness, though at least one person tripping and one person grounded (a babysitter if you will) will work just as well. The idea being that the tripping fellow will be able to offer compassion from your level or experience, and that the grounded person will be able to offer a link to reality and be around if things become too hairy. These people should be people you trust and have an established relationship with.

As for swelling, I do know that tripping has a tendency to cause a rise in blood pressure. And that laying in a prone position typically will cause a pooling of blood within the upper extremities (I.E. the arms and fingers). The combined force of elevated blood pressure and the pooling effect from being prone (I say from experience because it is difficult to do much else while tripping) could quite possibly lead to such effects.

5 g's of cubensis= level 3, 4 at best for me. I got a high tolerance.... its a curse. My advice to you is do it with somebody who can control the situation if you dont think you can. 5 g's aint that much, so you should be fine (try 10.... thats a trip!)

I had full cup of cubensis and had a really bad level five trip *alone*
I wrote about it in the trip reports "A good trip gone bad"
My advice: Don't trip alone unless no one can get a hold of you.
