Healthy recipes?
    #9765019 -

I have been really wanting to change my diet. But, due to my redneck upbringing, I know not about foods that aren't fucking beige. I'm going to the grocery today...
What are some good healthy meals? And I don't mean meals you ONLY eat for the health benefits, I mean shit that's actually GOOD.

Curries, Chicken and rice, salads, stir-fry, fruit salads.

Just stay around the outside edges of the grocery store.  Load up on fruit, veggies, meats, dairy, and bread.  Remember the food pyramid?  It's really not that hard to eat healthy.

Mixed baby green salads are always good, with balsamic vinaigrette.

fresh veggies and fruits.

Boneless, skinless chicken breasts, lightly coat with olive oil and garlic and grill them! Serve the chicken with salad and steamed veggies...

brown rice. When you cook the brown rice, I find it tastes MUCH better if before you dump the rice in the boiling water you drop a small amount of butter into a hot skillet, then add the uncooked brown rice and toast it until it starts to smell kinda nutty... OH and to cook the rice in a half water/half chicken broth. Like, if the directions call for you to use 2 cups of water to cook the rice, use 1 cup water and 1 cup chicken broth.

Black beans (great with aforementioned brown rice)

Tortilla wraps or whole grain pita instead of bread.

turkey or chicken lunch meat instead of like ham or salami.

soy milk

Protein mix

all natural juice (naked juice FTW!!)

For breakfast I like to make a smoothie either using naked juice, frozen "berry medley", and a scoop of vanilla protein mix... or soy milk, chocolate protein mix, and a frozen banana.

lean cuisine frozen dinners are also a good option to bring for lunch when you're at work. They won't fill you up alone, so pack a salad and some fruit to eat with it. They're just a good way to feel like you've eaten "real food" but not add a lot of calories.

I guess the point is to try to have a bunch of small meals instead of three big meals.

My meal plan usually goes like this:

1st meal: smoothie
2nd meal: string cheese and whole grain crackers (kashi are the best)
3rd meal: salad with fresh broccoli and carrots and grilled chicken
4th meal: protein bar (cliff bars, FTW)

I guess that's only one more meal, but this usually keeps me full all day.

I try to buy everything organic or natural

Thanks SS.
Lack of meals is my main problem. I only eat once a day, with little to no snacking. Its just that the one meal is sooo not worth it.

I eat grilled chicken & frozen organiz veggies for just about every meal.  I marinade the chicken in an Alegro marinade i get from the store.  It tastes just as good as Doritos, but is a million times more healthy!

I used to do that, now I am SICK of marinated baked chicken. Those Alegro marinades ARE decent though.
I like your means, meams!

GT's tomato sauce:
1 can diced tomatoes, 1/2 onion, herbs. Simmer tomatoes and 1/2 onion for 20 minutes to liquify it. Add herbs and pasta. Throw in cooked meats or tomato paste (NOT sauce) for thickness or variation.

GT's favorite cheap lunch:
Cook a pork steak (until it has just turned white in the middle, about 5 mins per side on medium heat if 1" thick) and add baked beans. Plenty of protein and fiber.

Try eating more greens. Do this gradually, or you will get the runs from the fiber.

I know all about the runs from that shit. I went flexitarian, eating meat only every 2 weeks, and the shitz were non stop.

Yeah, every now-and-again I get tired of the chicken, and I'll switch it up to salmon or steak for a while.  It's pretty much just a protein rotation, keepin it enjoyable
