When I first saw this article, I thought it was fake. I couldn't believe they could make such a big deal over that...

He got arrested for a DWI in 2004, so I'm sure he's not the mama's boy people think he is. He was also going out (not sure if its the same one) with a stripper in Vegas - and that scene is full of drugs.

You'd think the DWI would be a career ending move, but I guess pot is so much worse, because it is the performance enhancing drug that the media makes it out to be :lol:.

Either way Phelps is already a multi-millionaire. In a sick kind of way I hope his career gets fucked and he lobbies for pot to become legal!

I saw this on my phone while at work earlier today.  it was from the AP. I just saw it on Msnbc too.  I have lost a lot of respect for this guy after reading what he said in response to these allegations, which are true.  He doesn't stand up for what is right and just bows down for the sake of his career, which i can't blame him for - he's young and has a great life ahead of him.  It just aggravates me what people will do for money.

Seeing something as trivial as this making the headlines makes me wanna kill myself, no joke.  God forbid an 8 gold-medalist smoke a little ganj on his day off.  This is all over CNN too.  YEAH EVERYBODY WHO SMOKES WEED IS A DOPEY LOSER.  Yeah, fuck off and swallow a knife please, I'm getting sick of it.

He doesn't regret shit, but his publicist knows the only way to remain America's sweetheart is to "admit to wrongdoing". Nobody should care about what he does in his free time, and he isn't setting a bad example to anyone.

The news is making it a bad example by "reporting" how bad cannabis is - and that he does it. They could be sending an entirely different message, and they should. It should have the same implications as a photo of him holding a can of beer, or Obama with a cigarette.

Oh man, I just always knew Phelps rocked the ganja(not sure why, just had a feeling).  This doesn't surprise me at all.  I am sure that when he isn't training, he just parties like a rock star...I sure would if I had months off at a time like he does.  Hell, I did back when I was a swimmer in college.

Its too bad that he most likely won't use this to push the pro-pot movement.  A top athlete would be great for that, because it just shows that all those people saying that pot will make you lazy are proven completely wrong by one of the hardest working athletes ever.  But at least he can be referenced by others as an example of a hard working All-American boy who can successfully smoke marijuana while achieving his (extremely large) dreams.

Makes me proud I have a roor :cool:

Phelps apologizes on his Facebook page for his behavior and receives overwhelming support from his fans.

It is also reported that the IOC, his sponsors, and athletes back Phelps.

Of course if pictures of him shitfaced drunk were plastered all over the media there would be no uproar at all.
