Wax Paper On Monotub Setup

Is the wax paper method a viable option on an uncased bulk substrate in a monotub setup where you have the polyfill/tyvek holes in the sides of the tub and an oscilatting fan in the room for FAE?

Why not?  Bulk substrates don't need to be cased.  All the wax paper does is provide a 'mini-fruiting chamber' right at the surface which holds a high humidity so primordia can form.

It helps to wrinkle the wax paper up first, and then flatten it back out again before laying it down.  This allows for more passage ways for fresh air to penetrate under it.

Search posts from back in 2003-04 when I first started posting here.  I started using wax paper when I was previously active on another board and also on ABM before that, so that's when I wrote the most about it.

So, let me see if I've got this all right:

1.) Use aluminum foil over the sub during spawn run
2.) Replace the foil with crumbled wax paper during pinning/fruiting
3.) Replace wax paper every 2-3 days
4.) Fan sub only when replacing the wax paper
5.) Leave the wax paper on top of the fruits throughout fruiting and let the fruits push the paper up as they grow

Sound good?

4)  No.  Lift the wax paper several times per day to fan, and then put it back down.  At any rate, this is what I do when using wax paper over trays in a fruiting chamber or mini-greenhouse. Monotubs are somewhat different, but I'd suspect leaving the wax paper in place for 2 days without fanning would tend to encourage molds.

So, using the wax paper method would negate the no misting, no fanning "set it and forget it" aspect that many people use monotubs for correct?

I've heard that you'll get better results from fanning and misting your monotubs anyway. The more you put in, the more you'll get out of it, so to speak.

If you put wax paper over your substrate, you will be committing to fanning and misting.
