Yes, toss it. Since the trich showed up at the top and worked its way down, it shows that your vermiculite filter is not doing its job. Next time, be sure to wipe the top of the jars before putting the dry verm in, and allow a slightly thicker verm barrier.

You should definitely get a pc, if you haven't already gotten one since you posted this. The bubbles in your syringe are good. You will need a little bit of an air bubble in there anyway for when you shake up your syringe prior to inoculating your jars. Psycheofmse is right about cold shocking. It is only really needed for strains like P. azurescens that require "autumn weather" to trigger their fruiting phase. You picked a good strain to start out with. Like everyone above stated, just take your time, do it right the first time. Once you get the hang of it, you can try some other teks. follow the PF tek. follow the advice of those who came before us. There are a ton of kick ass people on this site. Like mephistophelian said, read through the threads. There is so much great info on this site, that adding redundant questions is not helpful to anyone. You can search the threads. Every legitimate question has probably been asked and answered at some point. Read the PF tek and get familiar with it. You should start with the PF tek, so you can get a feel for the mushroom lifecycle and time tables for colonization/fruiting. It is really not as hard as you think. If you read and follow directions well, you will be cloning, spore printing and working with agar in no time at all. Not to mention you will be tripping balls with your pals on the fruits of your labor. Best of luck to you and welcome to the club. May the schwartz be with you.
