what's up with this loph graft+ some other plants

OK so today i went cacti shopping and I got a loph grafted on a pedro:

i'm really happy because i got for 6$ only but the graft looks kinda unhealthy:

what do u think?? the woman i got it from told me its from the rain and cold. and that if i'll keep it in a dry warm place for the winter it will recover. do u have any idea what kind of loph it is? to tell the truth im not even sure that the stock is a pedro.:confused:
anyway i also got a big 5 feet pedro plant:


on the way home in the car the cacti kinda broke a little(u see the cut on the left branch?) so i made 2feet 4inch cutting out of it:

and this one also for 6$ only, good deal no?

and just for fun some other plant i got, don't know the names, maybe someone could tell me? :

not sure what is wrong with that loph, strange how the scabbing covers the callous on the stock too... (that is a pedro stock btw)
some spots look rusty to me, might be worth treating it with a fungicide.

as for the final two plants:
top one belongs in the genus Gasteria and the second i think belongs in Kalanchoe.


EDIT: also, looking at those diffuse spiralling ribs it is more than likely l. diffusa.
you will have to wait for flower colour to confirm.

diffusa has no mescaline in it, but it's definitely psychoactive.

woow, got it, its a  kind of a delirious trip. and whats the difference in colors of the flowers comparing with williamsii?

pink flower = williamsii
white flower = diffusa

there are exceptions to the rule but flower colour in conjunction with rib formation and other morphological features usually makes lophs fairly easy to id.

ok, and how long u reckon it will take mine to flower? also, the stock pedro is very hard an dense to the touch, i mean almost like a rock,all my other pedros are much softer, what does it mean? very hydrated?

i am not sure in any way but from what i have seen like your cactus it *seems* to be some kind of "infection" from grafting, i get it with some grafts, often that showed orange rust.....not sure if thats the real reason or not.  i sprayed with a sulphur (is sulphur really spelled sul*F*er?????  wtf???) spray and its at least slowed/stopped....but once its like that it will always look like that. yours is small though so it will be hidden soon enough (relative term with cacti!).

not long, likely in the next growing season, but it doesn't appear to have reached flowering maturity just yet. (no tuft of wool at the centre)

yes probably down to how well hydrated they are.
if they are getting soft them they could probably use a little drink, not sure what zone you are in though so it's hard to say exactly the best course of action.

i guess i live in a zone 9 or so.. the thing is i made some cuttings from a cactus i found in October and since then they rooted only a little because of the winter, so i don't want to water them to much for the roots to handle, on the other hand they got really soft. i guess next time ill be rooting only during spring summer.
the graft, on the other hand, was placed out side exposed to rain in the nursery i got from so i guess thats why he is hard. is it ok to leave your potted cacti outside to get rain during winter? it makes difference if they are planted in the ground?(I mean rain wise) where i from it rains an average 500 milliliter per year.

lucky you, so you can keep your cacti outside all year round and your winter is minimal :thumbup:

in your kind of climate you can get away with treating your cacti pretty much the same all year round, if you are growing in pots just let them sit dry for a bit longer between waterings in the winter when they are not growing so much.
if they are planted in the ground then it's up to mother nature i guess :yesnod:

the main issue with the growing medium being wet in winter is when cacti go truly dormant in colder climates.
i don't think cacti really achieve dormancy in zone 9, but someone else would probably be better situated to comment on that.

I dont kno what zone im in, i think maybe 14?
But my cacti grow all year..
In fact my san pedro grew pups over the winter!

Mmm, the scabbing on the scion is quite odd. 
I also agree that you may also have a rust problem, (if it's 'from the rain and cold' then possibly...) i've no solution, but if sulfur works as kadakuda said, then maybe give it a try.  The rusts usually come about from too much humidity.  From what i understand, you're supposed to dispose of the infected plant / area, but maybe just take off the loph/diffusa pups and quarantine them, in separate pots :P

Also, no idea as to the naming of the bottom pic, but i know for a fact that if you're in AUS you got ripped off for it, i could walk 5 meters in any direction for 200 meters and find that damned plant... So UGLY! nice flowers though >.>

lol, sorry.  Was a bit overzealous in my posting :P
Its a prolific weed around where i live.
Still though, i guess people still find Lantana a beautiful plant too :S

i would sugguest to pot the graft in a bigger better pot then the one it came with and keep it out of the rain. these things are pretty hardy...

when i got my peyote the vendor said it was 8 years old and it looked like this:
only it was completely covered, all the new growth occurred once i potted it and very quickly too


a year after that it looked like this:



i don't have a digital camera to show you how it looks right now but it's grown a lot and even flowered this year, right now it's hibernating for winter and it's been a very dry winter too.

in short give it some time to recover and then put it somewhere in full sun and don't be afraid to water once it starts growing (the pedro will pup readily if it receives water on a regular basis (i used to water almost every week but making sure that soil is dry for a day or two sometimes much more before giving water)
