Wrong.

I think too many Christians mistake myth for historical fact.

well, i hope you do realize christianity is an invention made by man.  It is only a few thousand years old.  There are many religions out there that are much much older.  So all the people before christianity was even invented went to hell i guess, since they didn't follow the teaching of the bible that didn't exist??

Thinking for myself is actually what killed my faith.  i was a devout christian for most of my life, up until i was 17.  One day, i finally sat and actually thought about a lot of the stories ligitamacy in the real world.  That is when you easily figure out it is bullshit.

Jonah lived in the belly of a whale for a week, since he can breath underwater and all.  The entire earth (according to the book) was flooded by god, yet there is not enough water on earth to cover ALL land at one time.  There are places in the book that say ridiculous shit like its a sin to eat shellfish, since they are dirty nasty creatures.  Christians make a shitload of divorced couples.  Once your married one time in gods eyes, its that way forever, so if you divorce and marry again, you are committing adultery, breaking one of the ten commandments.  yet many of those people you go to church with do exactly this.  It also says that if you marry your wife and she is not a virgin, you are to KILL her, yet i don't see this practiced.

Christianity is the most 'convenient' religion out there.  As soon as something new comes to light that is backed by fact, if the bible disagrees, all of sudden it is metephorical or being iterpreted the wrong way.  Its nice to pick and choose what parts to follow and what parts not to huh?  The book also contradicts itself MANY MANY times.  This list could go on forever.

peace

I think people who denounce Christianity are just people who can't look at themselves in the mirror and admit that they are bad people, so they try to make it seem like Christians are the bad ones. If you don't accept Jesus as your lord and savior you are going to hell, it is as simple as that. Christians can at least say we tried to warn you.

I am not going to hell if it does not exist in my mind. And if it were to exist I don't care but it doesn't. If I don't believe in it why does it matter to me if someone thinks I am going somewhere when I die but I think I am going some where else. None of us really know. You think you know but it is your faith you are believing in something just like I am.

I don't understand why most Christians think their religion is any different or better than any other religion. why is your's better? WHY IS YOUR'S RIGHT?

It does when billions of people die because of it.

Billions of people have also died from heart failure and cancer; what's your point?

I just think wholly dismissing Christianity on account of what people have erroneously done in its name is like throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

A true Christian does not kill.

I was reading a chapter in this book BIBLE MYTHS AND THEIR PARALLELS AND OTHER RELIGIONS by T W Doane . Chapter XXVIII shows all the parallels bewteen Crishna, Buddah, and Jesus. (#1 being that they were all born from virgins) etc. It is interesting because Buddhism and Hinduism has exsisted much longer than Christianity.

There is the online book if you want to check it out

The older I get the more immature religion seems. I have no problem with faith, but faith should be a guideline for life, not the end all.

it's a vile ideology. it doesn't matter how "good" the wisdom of it looks like at its core, it's how people apply it IRL.

Allow me to begin by saying, spirituality and religion are not the same thing.

Now, spirituality to me is WONDERFUL. Our ability to engage in spiritual practice is one of the greatest benefits of being a human. It is testable to the degree of putting question into mechanistic thought, and is not incompatible with science. With the revolutions in physics pretty much blowing many of the Newtonian assumptions away, spirituality can more now than ever be compatible with science.

Look into the fields of depth psychology and some of the consciousness research that is out there. It is impressive the findings they have amassed. Very replicable results. Take for example the following article.

http://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/Press_releases/2006/GriffithsCommentaries.pdf

This clearly shows that spirituality is a phenomenon that can be experienced in altered states of consciousness, and predictably. Certainly that isn't to say that only in altered states can one experience a spiritual experience, but it certainly makes it easy to replicate. Not only that, but it seems to be extremely meaningful for those who go through it, as well as creating positive effects in the individuals' lives (as reported by participants and those close to them (family, friends)).

So while the institution of religion may be fundamentally flawed, the teachings from it in my opinion are not. Spiritual experiences are directly written about in the teachings of various religious founders (Jesus, Buddha, Muhammad, etc.), which is then transmitted on by the religious pyramid.

You can deny the value of the teachings if you want, but I will continue to experience them in my own life, and in my trips, until the day I die. There can be a merger between science and spirituality if that's really what it would take for you to believe, but why? Why do you relentlessly doubt others' experiences? I've heard it said that the greatest feat that God ever pulled off, was creating the Atheist. For God is the Atheist, but the illusion of the individual is so strong he can no longer see it.

I've heard a lot of senseless bullshit said in my day. You can stack a line of crap in any shape you want whether it be intelligently worded or in old english or Hebrew or what have you... but that doesn't mean spirituality or the idea of god is any less made up in your head.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go on an overnight drunk, and in 10 days I'm going to set out to find the shark that ate my friend and destroy it. Anyone who wants to tag along is more than welcome.

god is described as infinite, timeless, and mysterious.

How would you describe energy?

Ask a scientist to tell you the mystery of energy.
Ask a church leader to tell you the mystery of god.

Energy is all around us, flows through our body and makes up every part of our existence. Look at your hand. It is pure energy, every single part of it.

Energy isn't gay, but the label god is.

From now on, everyone refer to "god" as energy.

Read the bible with this rule. Remember time doesn't apply, so the earth wasn't made in 7 days. It was more like a BANG

there's no "mystery" about energy, or anything. there's just that which we don't understand yet. i'd object to saying "god" too. every time we wanna say "god" let's all just be quiet for five seconds, okay?
