Okay, maybe this is an idiot observation here, but... that looks a lot more like Ganoderma applanatum (artist's conk) to me.  I find these all over near my home growing on tree stumps.  The G. lucidum mushrooms I've found tend to be more antler-ish, and a lot redder than that.

i use small pieces (2 x 2 cm), boiled for 2 hours. let cool and warm again.

you start pinning in an FC?

It's lucidum.  Applanatum is brown on the top surface.  Plus, there is the ever-distinctive staining of the pore surface when scratched.

Yes, its definitely lucidum. Good grow, btw, congrats!

I slice them thin and use about a cupful of slices per 5 cups of water, boil for 2 hours.

Beautiful!

Most of the sources I have read suggest a daily dosage of 3-5 grams dried, which I think is equal to 12-20 grams fresh. I have had success in placing fresh antlers in a heavy duty blender and pulverizing them before boiling. (Wouldn't try it with large pieces or dried pieces though.)

The strain came from lipa.

I wouldn't say that it is quite standard supplemented sawdust, but close enough. The block was made using hardwood sawdust supplemented with weetbix (a wholegrain cereal available here in Australia) and possibly some bran or coffee too. Spawn would have been wheat spawn.

Pinning actually started spontaneously inside the bag while it was still sealed up. Once I noticed I opened the bag and moved it into a greenhouse. After a while in the greenhouse though, the block was attacked by mites, flies and mould, so I moved it into my garage and hosed it down each day. That took care of the contaminants. There was no additional humidity bar ambient humidity, but that did not appear to hinder growth at all.

Lovely work and photos! Coir was a dud for mine also.
Where they soggy weet bix?

My next block is sawdust, hydrated with the water from boiling pasta-pinch or two of salt, dash of live oil. Might also chuck in any uneaten pasta.

I usually brew up strong batches of ganoderma tsugae tea, ill use several medium specimens for 20oz water, if you have never tried it be prepared for the taste...it is extremely bitter.

You can dry them out then run them over a cheese grater then put em in the blender to powder them and put some in capsules, just dont put large pieces in your blender, they will break it.

cant tell you a dose because i never weigh doses out with these or any mushroom:mushroom2:

i would eat 3-5 capsules a day, or more if you want.:cool:

but anyways awesome grow:grin:

No, they were not soggy weetbix, at least not when I added them to the sawdust. They were actually organic weetbix fished from the dumpster, but the bloody moths got to them before I did, so they became mushroom food.

Thanks for the info weiliiiiiii. That extremely bitter taste is what has put me off trying the last ones I grew (which I still have from months ago), but my girlfriend and another friend is interested in trying the tea, so I'll have a shot at it then.

The capsule idea is a good one. Always a painless way of ingesting foul tasting dried mushrooms. Maybe a coffee grinder would do well at turning them into a powder?

I remember reading that the good stuff had to be extracted in boiling water...and sometimes alcohol. There is some doubt about the efficacy of popping pills of dried tissue/spores, that haven't undergone any extraction process.

A big pot of tea makes for a great party-we tried it for the "heart opening" effects, and it sure seemed like everyone was extra nice. Might also have been the home made mead, but I've now got a bunch of Reishi drinking friends.

Okay, okay.  I'm feeling like a real idiot here. 

I've found very small reishi in duff around a tree and they were a deep red color.  I didn't get a chance to take a tissue culture of them before they got tossed out.  (Not by me!)

I've seen big clusters of polypores that look like those on tripsis' pics growing on a stump, in full sunlight.  I assumed they weren't the genuine article, because they weren't the same deep red.  Also, when I cut into them it looked as if there were multiple pore layers.  This, I thought, indicated it was a perennial fruiting.  I guess I was incorrect!  I'm going to check that stump tomorrow.

So does the amount of sunlight the fruits receive determine the cap color?  People always have pictures of deep red, shiny fruits, but that may be because they're not exposed to as much light.

Some reishi are more yellow, or even purple, than red. This particular strain seems more yellow and to have more variability in fruiting body shape than the traditional Chinese Red Reishi.

I know we also have G. curtisii, G. oregenense, G. resinaceum and G. tsugae growing in the U.S., with perhaps other species (or sub-species) yet to be separated out.

i have never seen such a prolific fuiter as yours.  even at fungi perfecti i was told that they only get 1-2 fruit bodies per block!  great job!
