ATI drivers...Help.

Okay, so I got this piece of shit computer from this guy who said he would pay me so he could have a PC to use at his home...I agreed to fix it. I had some parts I'm piecing together it's moving along nicely...Well, he has this RAGE 128 8MB VGA ver 2.0 card...I can't find any information on it, and I can't find any drivers for it. Anyone know anything about it?

All I know about ATI is to avoid it like the plague on Linux because it's a severe, severe pain in the ass to get drivers for it.

I imagine for windows it would be much easier though. No?

Eh....I had some work backed up so I took some adderall, and got all in the middle of this last project and I realized I can't find the driver...I don't even know if the card supports directx. I might just tell him he needs a new one.

I won't own an ATI personally either. I'll just let it right out with this generic driver I found, and tell him if he wants to play any 3d games he needs a new card.

You can get used nvidia cards very cheap, and the driver support is way way unbelievably way way better.

Yea. I'm doing this for a family friend so I'm not looking to make any money really. I'll probably just take him to the store n show him a decent card. He doesn't game or anything like that so he could get out of there without spending too much...Unless the Video in/out etc caught his eye...Always gets me.

its there, just click the pro/home link (if using xp or whatever) then pick legacy in the next pane, the last pane will show the drivers for rage 128.

and yes, its a very old card.  However, i did just see on ATI site that they are providing their own drivers for linux...might read up some on them and see if they are any good.  I've used nvidia on my past 2 comps simply for this reason, may have to look into the competitor now...
