system instability caused by nvidia getforce 3 ti500 driver
    #2029135 - 10/21/03 05:01 PM (13 years, 1 month ago)

for some reason, i get this message and a "the system has recovered from a serious error" message too. it says that my video driver is causing instability. but, its the latest driver out and so are all of my others. while playing games whenever i get to a certain part, the computer restarts.

anyone have any idea on how to fix this problem?

im using nvidias 45.23 detonator driver, windows XP, athlon 1800+.

Sometimes your better off sticking with known good drivers then the latest/greatest. Ive been hacing more and more problems with each new driver release so i dropped back to what worked best for my card/system and i dont get that extra .5 fps but I have a completly stable system.

Other things to check are AGP clock speeds, card tempurature, fan.

If it only started happening after updating your drivers then completly uninstall them and go back to a previous version using the hardware manager or in linux compile a previous version and insmod nvidia or if you have to go back far enough insmod NVdriver.

I had a problem with my radeon 9700 and my asus motherboard not getting a long. Doing any 3d stuff would result of complete lockup up, spontanous rebooting, and infinite loop errors.

I fixed it by swithing my AGP voltage from auto to the highest it would go (1.9 i think). Now my computer is super stable.

I have a nvidia geforce2MX400 and a Geforce3. I've been disappointed from nvidia drivers and have had crashes. Get an ATI. I've never had a single problem with my ATI 9700 AIW Pro.

*Update*

I went out and bought a new GeforceFX 5700 Ultra board, and installed the latest drivers.

Now when I play 3D Games, specifically Splinter Cell and Max Payne 2, the game will freeze up for about 20-30 seconds then unfreeze.

The graphics will completely stop, but the audio echoes.

What could be the problem? I'm getting tired of all this work trying to get my computer to work!  :shake:

I've also tried uninstalling and re-installing the video and audio drivers, but no luck.

In the card's manual, it recommends setting AGP Aperature to the size of the video card (128MB), and disabling any Video BIOS or RAM shadowing, so i did.

Do the games need to be set to run in compatability mode?

Go to epinions.com and bitch about the video card. Sometimes video card manufacturers only focus on delivering the hype and not the fundamentals. You shouldn't support them in this. Take back the video card if you can.

Do you have the latest DirectX version? This is very important on Windows systems, even XP.
Another question, are these on-line games? And are you using ZoneAlarm Pro? I ask because I was having a similar problem with a few of my games, and it turned out to be the latest version of ZA Pro. It may not be the Vidcard drivers at all.
If none of these and other suggestions work, load the game, let it hang up, reboot your system, and check the latest log in "system events". Post what it says here, and maybe someone here can be of better help.
