MY HORROR FIND AFTER ORDEAL OF ABORTION Oct 8 2002

Woman left to discover jar containing her baby

Lisa Adams Exclusive

A WOMAN who had an abortion was stunned to find the foetus left in a jar after a hospital blunder.

Nicola McManus made the horrific discovery when she was left in a room to answer a phone call from her husband.

The jar was labelled with her name.

She said: "I fell apart. I couldn't believe anyone could be careless enough just to leave it lying there. That image will live with me forever."

Something every woman who gets an elective abortion should see. No sympathy from this corner.

Mum-of-three Nicola, 27, received a a full apology from the hospital but plans to sue North Glasgow NHS Trust, claiming the handling of the abortion left her psychologically scarred.

Poor thing; at least she's alive to feel SOMETHING.

She took the RU486 abortion pill, which requires no surgery and is supposed to make terminations easier.

Hmmm. Terminations; nice euphamism for the taking of a life.

However, she said it no quick fix and she was offered no counselling by Glasgow's Stobhill Hospital.

She said: "They explained the procedure and got me to sign some forms. But no one actually sat down and asked me if this was what I really wanted to do.

Gimme a break! No one put a gun to her head. Did she expect them to talk her out of it?

"I was struggling to get my head around it. They made me feel just like a number."

You bet, because that's what she is. The clinic is a business. Any language about the poor woman who elect to get this procedure, about the importance of choice, is a smokescreen to try to dodge that fact. It's about money -- on the part of the clinic, and selfishness on the part of the woman.

Nicola, from Lennoxtown, near Glasgow, was nine weeks pregnant when she had the abortion in August.

She and husband Frank, 26, who is epileptic, decided a fourth child would be too much to cope with.

That's right; too inconvenient, so kill it. Let's extend that logic to the infirmed elderly and you've got Nazi Germany all over again.

Nicola's eldest son, Nathan, six, has behavioural problems and demands a large chunk of her time, as do Aiden, four, and baby Bethany.

The abortion pill works by causing a miscarriage. Nicola lay for hours in the ward waiting for it to take effect, then felt intense pain.

She said: "I wanted Frank to hold my hand but was told he could only stay during visiting hours. I was in a lot of pain and felt so alone."

Then, said Nicola: "They gave me a bed pan to take to the loo and something to cover it up. Eventually, I felt it happen. I was really upset. I've never felt so low."

She was relieved when Frank phoned to find out how she was.

Nurses showed her in to a side room to take the call and that's when she saw the jar containing the foetus.

She said: "I was mid-conversation and saw it. I told Frank and he tried to comfort me but I wasn't listening any more. I was crying.

"I was clearly upset when I returned to the ward and the nurses asked what was wrong. How could they not know?"

Nicola filed an official complaint and received an apologetic letter from the trust which said the room was not normally used by patients.

General manager Mary McGinley wrote: "Unfortunately, the products of conception from your termination were in a labelled jar ready to be sent to pathology and awaiting collection.

"The ward sister apologises for the obvious distress this has caused you."

Any apology to the baby? Nope.

Until now, the abortion pill has only been given in hospitals but family planning clinics and GPs were recently given the go ahead to use them.

Women may even be allowed to take the drug alone at home.

But Nicola fears a lack of medical support could leave some women traumatised.

She said: "Women need more counselling before abortions, not less.

"I will never get over what happened to me."

Good. You shouldn't. Your grief and pain should be as permanent as the death of that child.

From the article I don't think she was as much upset about what she did, as actuallyt looking on the little helpless dead body of her child. She's a mom, and always will be, her kid is just dead, and seing the jar made her realize that, IMO.

Why should she be? The last thing the world needs is another unwanted child. She took a brave decision for her child and should be praised for doing so.

Like Bill Hicks said "I'll tell you how you can end this anti-abortion thing right now, you know those unwanted babies women leave in dumpsters? Leave about 12 of those on the supreme court steps. You guys say I had to have it? well then you guys FUCKING RAISE EM. YOU FUCKING RAISE EM. You say I had to have it then IT'S YOURS FUCK - TAKE IT"

God bless Bill.

Fuckin retards. My girlfriend here in Japan just had an abortion, and I wouldn't have wanted her to see that shite! We couldn't afford to have this baby, and that is that. It was not murder, and the only thing we have to worrry about is moralistic morons like yourself trying to lay guilt trips. Clean up your own backyard, yo!

Im all for abortion but I also think that women should be made to regret their decision and regret all the decisions they made that lead to that moment...

Some girls I went to high school had more than one abortion begore graduation, Ive met other chicks who have had three and four abortions...

Thats what makes me split on the idea. One one hand its good because we dont need more babies out their with mothers not ready to take care of them and on the other hand it is not a form of birth controll like some use it as...

Maybe if more chicks who have abortions are left in a room with their aborted fetus then maybe they would stop making stupid decisions..

If she ends up rich cause of this, I swear to God, I'm killing myself, and cause I love ya, I'm taking every one of you fuckers with me....

I am just saying she should be able to look at what she did and not feel bad.

Its like if you shot somebody, ya don't look at the body and go "oh god a body" *vomit*,

but I am weird so I will shut up now.

What personal freedom? The freedom of choice to murder another innocent human being? What choice did the baby have? The baby didn't have a voice or a choice!

The child may have been unwanted by the mother, afterall she murdered the kid. But there are plenty of good families that want a child (or more kids) and can't have one.

In reply to:

If you can't or aren't prepared to take care of a child then you shouldn't even be having sex in the first place. I take all the precautions I can, but if I get a girl pregnant I have to deal with the fact that It's my responsibility to care for that child. The same blood that runs through my vains would be in that child,I can't imagine killing my own flesh and blood because I wasn't ready to have a kid. That's something ALL people who have sex should understand, thats the main function of sex: to reproduce, your actions have consequences if you can't deal with them then limit your actions in the first place.

You don't have a uterus, you're not a woman; stop trying to make reproductive decisions for women.

At nine weeks old the fetus is less than two inches long, I doubt that this woman even recognized it as a human embroy.

Now, stop this nonsense; please.

The freedom of choice to murder another innocent human being?

So I presume you're dead against Bush bombing Iraq? After all, this will result in the deaths of many thousands of innocent people.

Or do you support the killing of innocent people in some situations?

Everything that's ever lived is dead.

Everything that's alive is going to die.

Who gives a shit about abortion. I envy aborted fetus's.

I say 50% of women should have them.

We should start passing out VHS or DVDs everytime someone buy's a steak. Afterall, you are responsible for a poor animal's death, and you should see every step of the process.

*BTW, I'm a hardcore lover of any foodstuff that used to have a face.

I am pro choice....and yes, why should MEN, who are not even having the fucking babies be able to make that choice for women. It seems fucked up to me.

Of course killing something is a terrible thing...yet we are stuck to this idea, for some reason. Everything will die, we should be ok with that. A young mother who has her whole life infront of her, who does not have the money and time to be able to handle an unwanted child, should be able to make that choice of not having a baby. A woman who is in her mid 30s and has a wonderful house in a rich neighborhood with a loving husband who wouldnt leave her, might be a different story.

We should hand videos everytime you buy meat. Show you how they kill the animals. Why is this any different? They have just as much right to be on this planet as a human. Probably more.

"Shouldnt be having sex in the first place". Uhh ok...you tell that to people...
Noone will ever have sex agian unless its just for reproductive purposes only!?
