keeping an ultrasonic nearby
    #9559963 -

Would keeping an ultrasonic humidifier close by to my shotgun fc make a difference? I'm having trouble keeping up the RH and FAE, and I'm away for 8 hours of my day almost every day. My FC is in a small cubbord under a countertop.
Thanks for any information.

Edit: Sorry if this has been asked before. I couldn't find an answer through the search bar...

Why don't you hook up the ultrasonic humidifier to your shotgun FC so that it brings RH up to 99% and constantly gives it FAE?

yeah, a ultrasonic on some kind of timer will give you a good shot of humidity.

Does it?? I remember in one of RR's posts he said there's no such thing as fully automated FC's.
But if this ultrasonic idea is true then I'm willing to do it up.

And why do i need to get it out of the cabnit? It's got room in there.

It wouldn't be fully automated because you would have to fan them several times a day anyways. The reason for this is because if you don't let the mushrooms dry out a little during the periods of fanning, they will abort growth. An ultrasonic humidifier will supply so much humidity that the mushrooms would normally be constantly wet. You would also have to put some type of drain with a plug in the bottom of the FC because it will build up water fast when using an ultrasonic.

the only reason I can think of to remove them from your cabinet is that it would absorb all the humidity into the interior of the cabinets.  wood is highly absorbent.  and could breed nasty contams.

Ok. So, if I have an ultrasonic humidifier hooked up to my (shotgun) FC, this will provide good FAE aswell as RH while I'm away? I'd beable to fan/mist my cakes once in the morning beore I leave for work, and a few times when I get back unitll I go to sleep.

Also could you recommend me a good unltrasonic humidifier and how to hook this up to my FC?

That makes sense. I'll move it some where else.

Yes an ultrasonic humidifier on the outside of your FC will pump high humidity and fresh air into the FC. The holes in your shotgun FC should be a sufficient outlet for CO2. When looking for an ultrasonic humidifier, find one that has a humidity outlet that would be easy to connect a pipe or tube to. Just don't buy a really cheap one ($10-20) because they will break down in no time. I would recommend spending like $30-40 for a decent one. Here is a link that will tell you a good way to hook up the humidifier: http://www.erowid.org/plants/mushrooms/mushrooms_mmgg.shtml

you have to get your FC out of your cupboard because it needs airflow's to work. In fact if I remember RR has said that shotgun FCs require an amount of airflow in a room to wick moisture out of the perlite. Either way, if you have your FC in there your not getting enough FAE.

Frankly I personally hate shotgun FCs and I've found, despite RR's assertions that they work even in low humidity environments, that people in low humidity environments are constantly complaining about them.

my theory is if u have a lower humidty use fewer holes in the shotgun FC, it will hold more humidity, but requires more FAE.

As said a few times above, get that thing out of the cupboard.  A shotgun terrarium is as close to fully automated as you'll ever get, but it needs to be in an open room, with air able to circulate around all six sides.

Don't hook an ultrasonic or anything else to it, because it isn't necessary. Likewise, don't block any of the holes.  They're what gives it the high humidity, not lowers it.  For those who don't know the engineering behind the tek, there's a simple explanation here.

say I have a 55 gal terrarium, duel chambered, 3-4 in. perlite on bottom, using brf pf-tek cakes.  what should I use to cover it, my current options r a screen or a plastic air tight cover.  but Im open to ne suggestions.  I know it needs FAE but i can fan it out for that and I can spray for added moisture though I dont think I will need too much of that due to perlite and I dunk & roll.  just wondering?

I meant that you should post it in the cultivation forum, not this thread specifically. Just open a new thread and put your question in it. You will get a lot more replies. I can't really help you with this question.
