outdoor cultivation question

I live in AZ where it is very dry most of the time. I want to try growing outdoors due to the fact that all my indoor trials were unsuccessful(i live in an old moldy house.) Anyway, I was wondering if perlite would help with humidity if i found a good shady spot to birth my jars. and if i do use perlite do i just sprinkle it on top or do i mix it in with my substrate? Thanks

Dig a 4" deep trench somewhere in the shade. Fill it with cow or horse manure and spawn your fully colonized cakes into that. Cover with a couple inches of straw to serve as mulch and to hold humidity. Keep the straw damp. The mushrooms will push up through the straw layer when they form.
