More Outdoor Cultivation Questions :)

I am going to be growing outdoors and I was wondering if it was possible to put Perlite underneath the layer of dung/straw. This is too provide extra moisture and humidity since it has been hot and dry where I live. Will this work?

perlite doesn't work like that. It provides more surface or air to water contact. Thats how it provides high humidity. I might try putting moisture crystals into the soil under your grow area. They absorb moisture and then release it slowly. You can find them at most garden stores. I think Miracle Grow makes some real good ones.

The best outdoor beds I have seen just put a layer of vermiculite on the top and water 2-3 times a day. I would think the dirt provides some sort of nutrients because I seen a number of shrooms growing about a foot away from the bed in the dirt.

I should of clarified a bit more. Usually the moisture is checked and added if needed. When pins appear they get 2-3 waterings a day. Sorry for any confusion, but its what I seen work here, of course your experiments may differ.
