Hey guys i have been reading around and was just wondering would a veggie/rice steamer be any good for steralization of substrate jars? or what is good since i dont wanna have to fork out alot of money for a PC since fairly broke atm lol

Steam doesn't get hot enough to sterilize under normal pressure, so that wouldn't work.

If you really can't get a pressure cooker, then the PF tek is your friend.

However, a PC is only 30 bucks at Wal*Mart, and is a worthwhile investment in the long run.

I was gona say the same thing... Say you spend 20-30 bucks on a steamer you can get a small PC for 30-40 bucks.. It may not be able to hold alot of jars but it will be better than getting the steamer..

Damn and this is exactly why i ask these dumb questions before testing them lol yeh think im better off just buying a small PC does it matter if its old and cheap? will any PC do no matter what age it is ect.?

Why would it have to be old?  You can get a NEW 1 for $30-40 like they're saying.  Spend $60 and you can get a 16qt which is definitely a good size.

Buying new is preferred.

Remember, pressure cookers can go BOOM! if they aren't cared for properly.

If you are going to go to a thrift store or something, just make sure to test all the valves and the locks. Just blow some air through the valves to make sure they're clear.

Hmm all the PC im looking at on ebay are over $90 for a new one cheaper for old smaller one but i cant find any ones as cheap as mentioned???

there's an 8qt.  if you don't have it at your Walmart, you can have it delivered to the store for pick-up for free.

Go to walmart or any super store and they sell small  8-12 quart PC's

That one doesn't use a gauge.  When 15psi is reached, that thing on the top starts rocking/rattling.

Correct, that top thing is a weight that when set on top of a specific sized hole, will move when the pressure is above 15psi. when it moves, it releases a little pressure and then settles back on top... not efficient, but it holds 15psi.

so i have been looking and a was going to buy the exact one you pointed out to me but i have just read on the site that they dont ship outside the US???

Since i live in Australia what would be the best site to get a pressure cooker and canning jars delivered to Australia they dont have to be based in Australia just have to be able to post to Aust but if you happen to see an Australian site well that would be helpfull aswell anyway cheers for the help you have already provided for me and would greatly appreciate a tad more lol.

Oh and incase your wondering why i just dont buy the jars and lids here its because i have not been able to find one canning jar like the ones we need here so fuk it order it all im sik of shopping around my piss weak town looking for things that the merchants have no clue what i am talking about.

Oh and by the way can i just make my own lids for jars i can buy here? i have the RR video which gives you a quick rundown on something like this?
oh and im not using cakes so shape wouldn't really matter yeah?

i dont think that gets up to 15psi. i have a 8qt mirro and it only reaches 10psi. If that one does i got ripped off i guess lol.
