Just start pollinating the flowers with various chillies and see what comes of it

well, i just ordered some new peppers, im going to try to make some hybrids between these if it's possible (is it?)

Here are the 5 groups of peppers.You can only cross breed within the same family.For instance you could breed a Jalapeno with a Bell,which I intend to try this spring.Check out the 5 groups of peppers,and see what the actual scientific name,and family is for the peppers your trying to cross,then You'll know if it can be done.1) Capsicum annuum
Includes most common Peppers such as jalapenos and bell Peppers. The plants tend to mostly bear white blooms, though some can be violet; the fruit develops hanging down.

2) Capsicum baccatum
The plants produce white blooms with brown, orange or yellow marks on them, and from the blooms grow very small chiles about the size of berries. Its small chiles are common in South America, but not known yet outside of there. Varieties include Ají Angelo, Ají Cuencano, Ají Picante, Criolla Sella, Lemon Drop, and Peri Peri.

3) Capsicum chinense
The plants produce blooms that are white to pale green. They produce the very hottest grouping of Peppers, including Scotch Bonnet and Habaneros. This group is badly misnamed. A Dutch botanist named Nikolaus von Jacquin had been in the West Indies for five years, 1754-59, gathering specimens, which he then took back to Europe to study. He seems to have gotten confused about what specimens came from where, because when naming it "chinense" in 1776, he wrote, "I have taken the plant's name from its homeland."

4) Capsicum frutescens
This group includes compact bushy pepper plants, such as Tabasco, Aji Cahucha, and Aji Guaguao.

5) Capsicum pubescens
This is a mildly hot grouping, including Caballo (horse), Jutiapa, Llata, Manzano (apple), Peron (pear), and Rocoto Peppers. Unlike other Peppers, this group can't cross-breed with Peppers from the other groups, and its seeds are brown or black, instead of white. The blooms of the plant are violet. These are very hardy peppers; from their natural habitat in the Andes they have learned to stand temperatures down to 23 F (-5 C).

is the color of the peppers a co-dominant trait like with humans?

if so, I expect I could cross the chocolate habaneros with the white habaneros and get a tan habanero?>  if so I'll be naming it after myself of course :wink:

Yeah,you can cross them,because they are both Habaneros.I actually wonder if they would turn out tan?You should post a grow log experiment on cross breeding different peppers,and I'll add some input to when I do my crosses.I was going to wait and plant my Giant Bell peppers this spring,but i think I'll go ahead and get them going because spring here is like a month away:grin:

i also plan on starting my seeds as soon as I get them.

they'll be fine in my sunny window till they develop their true leaves, then I'll just put them all under my Metal halide bulb until spring.

I'm going to have the following peppers:

white habanero
chocolate habanero
peter pepper
naga jolokia
black pearl hot pepper
Giant bell pepper
black bell pepper


im going to have to find out what family the peter pepper, naga jolokia, and black pearl peppers are from so i can see which to cross breed

might actually keep them inside all season till they're flowering and cross pollinated, then put them outside to fruit so I dont have pesky bees pollinating the flowers i dont want done.

okay, here i go so i don't forget.

Below are the peppers in question and their now-known families:

Soooo it looks as if I will be having a lot of fun with these

possible crosses:

-peter pepper x bell pepper = giant penis pepper? :eek: i sure hope that trait remains

-peter pepper x black bell pepper = giant BlACK PENIS pepper? that'd be ownage

-peter pepper x black pearl pepper = black penis pepper :smile:

-bell pepper x black pearl pepper = black bell peppers with possibly black leaves, awesome

-black bell pepper x black pearl pepper = black leaves with hot, medium-sized black peppers


and for the hot ones

-naga jolokia x chocolate habanero = chocolate naga jolokia?

-naga jolokia x white habanero = white naga jolokia?

-chocolate habanero x white habanero = tan habanero?

***CAN someone please tell me if the color trait is codominant please?!?!

hell yeah man,do a grow log on the whole thing.I'm going to do a peter pepper bell cross to,and maybe a Peter pepper,Habanero,The possibilities are endless:grin:

since the peter pepper is Capsicum annuum, i can only be crossed with the bell peppers and the black pearl

the naga jolokia will be mixed with the habaneros.

Can't wait either, the log will be going in this thread
