Petri dishes
    #948358 -

After sealing petri dishes with pyrex or clear plastic wrap is it ok to spray lysol light around on it?

I think an illustrated tek called "agar work for simple minds" is required.

I could certainly use it. I'm finding agar work really hard.

Anno, have you considered doing an "agar work for simple minds" tek?

I don`t agree, I think there are more than enough sufficiently detailed agar teks to be able to have a succesful agar run.
If you are battling with these teks then you should read more till you are more comfortable with them.

The major trick with agar work is to do it in a very clean (as sterile as possible) enviroment. You are also creating a perfect nutrient enviroment for bacteria & molds, besides myc.

So, it will grow whatever gets on it. Hopefully, myc is the only thing.

I had a lot of trouble with it until I acquired a super clean work area & flow hood. If you cannot manage that? A glove box, helps in a huge way.

If you don't have a glove box? Try to find a good 3M face filter mask. Cover your hair with a shower or surgery type cap. That helps also.

Agar is not as tough as many would like you to think, IMHO . Ego is very new to this , first time for hands on self (have seen others ) .
The best advice given is "READ" , The Mushroom Cultivator is source Ego learned from .
Make a sterile lab , Ego used medical curtains to create draft free area that could be controlled , shut down cooling/heating system in house , used lots of pine-sol and clorox spray , washed the fuck out of self and hands , wore a surgical mask , sterile gloves , surgical hair net .
Ego had zero contams , did transfers and had zero contams , in fact had so much left over mycelium in dishes that started outdorr tek with it , also have more jars of grain than know what to do with (only setup 10 gal tank) , have begun second gen grain to grain transfers (waiting to see results now ) .
So do not be affraid to try , just be as clean as possible , wear a mask , and hair cover .
Good Luck
May the Mushroom Goddess bless all your endeavors !
P.S. In fact only contam had so far (knocks on wood) is the dish Ego on purpose coughed on it is covered with contams .
