I think humans have reached a point where physical evolution  has taken a back seat to mental and technological evolution. For humans to physically evolve something like wings could take hundreds of thousands of years, but thanks to technological evolution we went from being stuck on the ground to having fighter jets and being able to travel through space in a century. Although this technology was based on thousands of years of research the rate of advancement is still many times quicker than physical evolution. I think our species is actually an example of evolution making a quantum leap from slow physical adaptation into a new evolutionary paradigm which runs exponentially faster than the old one.

Do you mean physical evolution? Because I'm not saying that physical evolution has slowed down, I'm just saying that the new form of evolution (technological and cultural) is a lot quicker and i think the change from creatures which evolve physically to ones which evolve mentally and technologically is profound.

That's an interesting thought and I believe there is truth in it. It also has a consequence for physical/classical evolution: we have found effective ways to disable the mechanisms that drive evolution. Hence, as a species, we will grow weaker, less able to adapt to our natural environment and more prone to disease. It's the downside of modern health care that you'll hear no politician ever talk about.

That is not true at all.  There is no way to disable the mechanism of natural selection.

There are still people who die before giving birth, and others who have a great many babies.  This is natural selection at work.
