In this case, yeah.  I don't know where the poop came from.  If you have a subb patch, you should use substrate from that patch.

Ive debated that picture for a while myself. The caps almost look yellow...

It would not be out of the impossible for subbalteatus to look like that. But the diversity of subbalteatus usually leaves a lot more variation. especially if it were within a population that size.

If all of those mushrooms were cloned from one single mushroom and the genes were isolated to a limited amount of genetic variation, I still say its impossible for pan subbs to do that...

Not subbs says subbedhunter. Gimme some proof.

Hi Subbed, I say it's not Panaeolus cyanescens and it's not Panaeolus cambodginiensis. They don't fruit at temps of 64F to 68F.

The edible Flammulina velutipes is a good example how environmental influences can alter the appearance of a mushroom completely. Pic 1 naturally grown, pic 2 cultivated.

As far as I know mjshroomer has some spore prints of these alleged Pan.subb. mushrooms. Maybe that's the solution of the problem.

I am positive that mjshroomer has these prints. I also know though that the picture is from a mushroom farm in Amsterdam and mjshroomer was not responsible for its growth.

Im still hesitant to call them subbalteatus because they still dont look like any pan subbs Ive seen cultivated indoors.

It may be... I still say no. But the gene pool must be very limited among that population.

These are the closest ive taken comparative to that crop.

Some strange looking Pan.subbs from Switzerland, found in a garden between potato plants.

I am pretty sure they are not subbs because the cap is dome shaped and does not have the broad umbo that subbs have.

Also they are in the fruiting chamber, they wouldn't be all dried out and gone hygrophanous in there like they do in the wild.

It would be interesting to know which Copelandia species fruit at that low temp.

It is possible that they are initiating the fruiting and then lowering the temperature to ward off contaminates.  Those temps could be the lowest possible without stunting fruitbody development.

why grow pan subbs for any reason but aestheticism? I'd rather grow a more potent species like panaeolus cyanescens or some species of psilocybe.

I was under the impression that subbs were just as potent, possibly a bit less than cubes.  Am I mistaken, and if so, how less potent are they?

all depends, never had cultivated but ive heard theryre almost as potent as cubes also when cultivated...the wild ones ive had are anywhere from 50%-75% as potent...all depends.

In a sample from Switzerland scientists found 0.74% Psilocybin and almost no psilocin. Potent enough for me.

Yes it really does depend. I usually take 8 grams dried of average wild subbs, and that gives me a stronger trip than 4 grams of cubes for sure. probably equal to 5-6 grams of cubes. I have also found subbs that were extremely potent. 4 grams was more than a 4 gram cube trip, and way more fun. I would love to cultivate some subbs that were as potent as cubes because the trip is 100x better than a cube trip so much more fun, when they are decently potent. If these are subbs indeed (not saying they are) then im sure they are probably on the high potency range for subbs, and in that case I would much rather have them then cubes any day hands down.

This is good to hear, since they're the only ones that grow wild in my area...

I think Alan or Workman should ask mjshroomer for a spore sample to solve the problem.

All the cultivated subbalteatus pictures I've seen look much different than the Amsterdam mushrooms.  I've noticed most subbs in cultivation tend to have even skinnier stems than wild specimens, probably due to environmental factors.

Cloned, fat stemmed subbs could possibly produce stems like those, but it seems unlikely that subbalteatus would produce that kind of cap in indoor conditions.

That cull strain is lookin close.

I am with you, Ive got so many spores it would be tight to cultivate. I remember reading some article that over seas they are cultivating subbs by the thousands. And subbs are supposed to be the weed mushroom. So there must be some easy trick to growing them.
