You should make a fanfretted design dude.

Head on over to sevenstring.org forums for info and such.

i actually debated doing a fanned fret thing, but thought it would be too much shine with the inlay on the fingerboard

I say go for it, totally well worth doing if you have the ability to actually do it. I cant wait to order a Blackmachine F8, the fanned fret 8 strings are lovely. But new amp comes first. Diezel VH4!!!
Just bought a PRS Custom 24, love it to bits.

Picked up some woods to build this bass and a bass for a friend of mine. The woods from right to left are Cocobola, Zebrawood, Purpleheart, Wenge, and Walnut. I think they will go quite well together.

Ok, I got the neck through section cut, planed, jointed and glued up. I also got the body core, top, and back cut out and plane. I need to do some sadning on them, but should have them glued up by Thanksgiving. The bass should be finished by Christmas. Here is a sneak pic:

The neck through section is Wenge | Curly Maple | Purpleheart | Curly Maple | Wenge. The Maple lams are veneer thin and just act as light accent stripes to give the purpleheart and wenge some definition. The body is going to have a walnut core with zebrawood top and back.

Enjoy!

Will do!
I made a mistake when I said what the neck is made of. It is walnut instead of wenge. Wenge is the core of the body with zebrawood on top and bottom. So, the neck is walnut | maple veneer | purpleheart | maple veneer | purpleheart | maple veneer | walnut. The maple veneer will act as accent lines once it has been planed flat.

I am also starting a second bass this week. It will be a set neck instead of a neck through. I am still deciding on what woods I will use.

damn, can't wait to see it finished. Those woods sound godly, I wish I had the hands/resources to make something so beautiful.

I've never had the luxury to fiddle with a neck through for any extended length of time, but I can only imagine making one would be really fun and it would play quite nice?

i dig neck throughs and set necks because you can shape the transition area to feel relatively invisable to the thumb of your playing hand.

I have logged in this once so that I can set the "last seen" feature up.  let the faggots flow forth into OTD and have it.  Its funny how they all grew nuts after I left.  I'm not here, I'm not reading, but I urge you all to keep melting down over me.  I know, I hurt alot of people, and they deserved it.  epic win for me, epic fail for you.

ythan, you rock dude.  i feel that my time at the shroomery was very positive and enjoyable, but this site is no longer for me. im not mad or upset or disappointed, i just want no part in a pg rated faggot festival.
