How long will bleached straw stay good?

I have a garbage bag of bleached straw that i forgot about.It smells just as fresh as when i first bagged it up.How long will stay good?It's 3 months old and it's been twist tied and not opened.Will bad straw always smell bad?

Ive had the same straw for about a year, and its been open the entire time.

Its worked fine :wink:

Im not sure what bleached straw is, however Im thinking youd probably just want "normal" wheat straw.

Bleached straw is pasteurized with bleach.Stamet style,from TMC.Heat pasteurized straw never works good enough,plus bleaching is so much easier.

my advice would be to re-do it.
stamets sez to spawn the bleach-pasturized straw immediately....

how do you bleach straw.
percentage bleach?
how long is it steeped?
is it rinsed after?

I used a 5 gallion bucket and a weight.Put the bucket in the bath tub,fill 4.5 with hot water.The tek calls for a 1/2 cup bleach for 5 gallions of water,but that would not leave any room for the straw.I still use a pillow case tied at the top.I always chop up my straw with a weed whacker in a rubbermaid,but it might not be necessary.I put the pillow case in the bucket,put the weight on top,put the lid on.I've left it over night before,but lately i've just waited until the water turned cold.Both ways work.When it's done i just pour it out,and hang it to drip dry.Don't rinse it,just hang it.This works way better then heat,and much cheaper then Wayne Rushes H2O2 tek.The lime soak is flat out dangerous and toxic to the environment. Thanks Hippie3, i'll get the bucket back out.
