i wonder how easy it is to cultivate these
it wouldnt be hard to start a mycelial culture from an existent one


its always a race to get them before something else does!

I think boletes are mycorrhizal like chanterelles and do not respond to attempts to cultivate.

I would be getting an outdoor environment for these wouldn't be difficult. Just study the species well. I think you'll be able to at least spawn some media and mix into an outdoor bed. Just from the pictures I can see what look to be like pine, fir, spruce twigs, and some needles.

Dig underneath one of them and examine the mycelium.

The myc grows slow as hell on agar, if at all. Beauties solubai.

Nice finds! Boletes are indeed mycorrhizal, posing some difficulties to cultivators, I suspect. I'm not aware of any successful cultivation attempts, but since they're very common, I doubt it has been attempted that often.

im sure it has, if not openly admitted to by some. like all my projects i know full well will probably never work, and often don't. i don't always feel the need to broadcast my ineptitude :P

i would imagine that you could at least promote such micohorrizal association if you could first culture the mycellia in the your target soil, use that soil from initial germination/rooting of your trees and then transplanted them to a tree farm environent.

i think in many host species, they do not do well unless a suitable symbiote is present from root formation. in such case, i speculate at least that an association is already formed by the time the tree is transplanted. anybody better familiar with silviculture and micorrhizae might be able to comment on such thoughts.
