You dont need any other chemical to make the water clean from H2O2.. H2O2 brakes into Water (H2O) and Oxygen when it oxidates....Just make sure it oxidates..2H2O2--->2H2O+O2 Not sure how fast the H2O2 oxidates in water though.. I could be dead wrong about it even oxidating when in a sollution..

Hi, H2O2 doesn't break too fast without any help in pure water. I think you could use some antioxidant to do it, like ascorbic acid. But on the other hand I think it is not worth it's price. Why don't just boil it well?? You have PURE (without any useless additives) water this way...

john: are you sure that antioxidans as c-vitamin destroys h202? If you are, how fast? LillSkit: It takes months and months to have h2o2 just in traces without katalisator (wrong spelling). And h2o2 reduces, not oxidates in h20.

Well, I have never destroyed H2O2 with anything but my blood... If a substance is an antioxidant that means, that it oxidates (..arrghhhh...) itself easily. In this way some vitamins protect our cells from destroying. In between oxidating substances in the human body there are many that are not strong in comparison to H2O2, and they are inactvated (by vit. C for example). So - I think that possibility that vit. C destroys H2O2 is rather high. I have no proofs, so ... maybe I try to find out.

None of you have had much more than high school level chemistry, have you?First, it doesn't matter if there is a little hydrogen peroxide in your perlite/substrate/whatever... you'll only need a teaspoon of it anyways. Second, who gives a shit about antioxidants? This is not a chemistry forum. Lastly, I realize that this is not a Grammar Forum, but c'mon!!! Please check your spelling.

Sclorch: It does matter is there peroxide in traces very much. And you should read the topic of this forum. (my knowledge of chemistry is much better than of English )I am still waiting for some usefull information.

Hopefully useful info:H2O2 is easily broken down to water and oxygen by any of the following: Metals such as Iron (Fe), Zinc (Zn), and for rich people, Palladium. Powdered metal works much faster because of the increased surface area. Peroxidase enzymes, which are present in almost all living tissue. Fresh, unheated juice from any vegetable has lots, a few drops is all it would take. Light. UV breaks down H2O2 fairly rapidly, which is why it comes in brown opaque bottles. Exposure to sunlight for a few hours would it. Heat breaks H2O2 down rapidly. I forget the critical temperature, I think its around 140 far.

john (thanx), doktor dung (thanx) and all others: do you know any site that could help me with exact information of t1/2 for these conditions where I could find out could some of these ways destroy peroxide that fast that it can be usefull for any sterilization?

I use the agar technique by putting a >small portion of liquid inoculant into a petri dish with malt agar to >cultivate mycelium for my 24 quart jars. yes.. one drop on a few agar plates is all you need... sector the rhizo growth.. and spread this to several more agar plates..... when you have enough of them..... you can make mycelium syringes. What I do is put the rhizo mycelium in a 1/2 pint jar with some sterile water and a tablespoon of h202 to kill any unseen contams.. but it doesnt hurt the mycelium... then shake vigorously ... and suck into syringes. Inoculate substrate.

Hi Crobih, You can find info about such metal ions reactions in books on inorganic chemistry. Search for redox reactions. About organic reductors/antioxidants - biochemistry, like Stryer's or Lehninger's books. Unfortunately I don't think You can't find anything about H2O2 reactions with vit. C for example. As I said earlier - this way is only my idea. Good Luck. His Majesty Professor Of Chemistry And Other Sciences Sclorch: When I have a bad day, I shut my mouth and wait for better one before I offend somebody. I'm not going to talk about my qualifications, because it seems ridiculous to me. About spelling - I didn't find such a word like "c'mon" in my dictionary, but I don't care about it, because I understand it. Peace.

I don't have the site anymore, but there was someone selling a peroxide manual for 15 bucks or so. I think if you do a search 'peroxide&mushroom' you will find it. His claims were pretty extraordinary [so I didn't believe it]. He claimed to fruit in his living room, inoculate on his kitchen table. . .Maybe he has some good protocols, maybe it's bunk. Worth checking out, though.

I already posted this in another topic, but here's that site. Please respond to this or my other post if you have read or know more about this manual.members.aol.com/_ht_a/RushWayne/Perox_Mushrooms.html [This message has been edited by Suntzu (edited January 21, 2000).]
