monkey head mushroom?

am cooking these for dinner right now
the smell is not so great.
the label says they are from china.
can anyone tell me any more about them?

they are soft with hairlike strands

I agree with aural. They are a tooth fungus, and the "hairlike strands" hang straight down like icicles when they are growing. They are very good when young - if you fry them up and dip them in butter thay taste somewhat like lobster. When they get older they develop a bit of a sour flavor, but they are still OK.
