Marriage.....why even bother?
    #9127563 -

I like the idea of commitment. I think its romantic when two people are so in love with each other, that they wish to walk the path of life together. You would think Marriage sounds perfect for a guy like me, but here are some reasons why its starting to not look so hot.

-Im not really a Christian, while i do agree Christianity has some good things to offer, im sure as hell not christan enough to need a bible for any occasion.

-I dont plan to make a commitment of any kind till i find the right women, but should the unthinkable happen, im gonna be the one getting fucked over by the hurt/heartbroken/vengeful women. Ive watched my mom do it to my step dad, my step mom do it to my dad, and many other people who faced divorce. Why risk half my shit so a chick can have an "Easy ride" after a failed marriage?

-And speaking of divorce......WTF is so magical about marriage and the bond it forms if it can be broken by a government piece of paper. Thats not sacred.....thats bull shit. So its up to the government on how legally binding my relationship is? Kinda defeats the whole "Image" of marriage.

Thoughts? Experiances? Flames? Please convince me why my views are a little warped, or back up my assumption that what im worried about is a damn legit way to be thinking.

My marriage is secular and involves an oath to her from me.  It cannot be dissolved by a 'government piece of paper' nor does it need government approval.

My life and relationship have done nothing but improve in the years since I got married.  I didnt think it would change much, but somehow it changed things for the better.

Why marry? Because there are many, many benefits, mostly financial. I last hears there were 2,800 of them

Personally, it feels extremely awkward for me to call the girl I would be with my 'wife', just something about it, I like the sound of 'girlfriend' more and it doesn't mean I love that girl any less than I would if I were to marry her. I'm not afraid of commitment as much as I am about so-called 'maturity' and 'growing up'.

So, I have made a personal oath to myself to never get married or have children to keep myself young at heart all my life.

Put the power back in the peoples' hands by ending this nanny-state.

So no oath from her to you?

Seems kinda one-sided.

i dont believe in marriage and i openly tell people that, when they assume ill get married in the future.

marriage is for the religious and the traditional, imo.

in fact, i even kind of look down on males that get married.  i kind of consider them suckers.

LOL. That is the worst reason to get married, next to " I got her pregnant now I have to". If you don't want to get married, buy eachother rings. The only difference is is that the gov sees you married.. That's it. Who gives a fuck if you don't get bennies. Being married and being fiance s are no different. You still love eachother, you're still together, you're still dedicated, you still have sex. Why change it? I don't believe in marriage either. America has one of the highest divorce rates in the world. Around 50% ish . Pathetic. Just make a commitment to stay together. That way, if you do break up.... SHE CAN'T TAKE EVERYTHING FROM YOU!

true.

not to mention the cost of weddings and drama of a divorce.  it's basically a 50/50 chance.  most married men i meet, dont seem very happy and i can usually get them to admit it's due to their marriage.  i even got a religious guy i work with to admit it.

i just dont believe in it though, im not anti-marriage or anything.  it people get married it's their own fault.

It may vary from state to state. Besides, how the hell are they supposed to prove that if you have your own accounts and everything is separate, but you spend your money on each other?

Did you not see my post; 2,800 benafits, tax deductions, protection from testifying against them in court, the right to be by their death bed. There are alot of important things that come with that license

For those 2,800 benefits there are 2,800 things to contradict them.
