I'm pretty sure the government could do a better job than that if they wanted to fake something. Different cameras than what we're used to, different atmosphere, composite photos...every explanation as to how it's real but looks fake so far combined with the fact that there is a completely different quality of light on mars leaves me leaning towards real. Michael Jackson doesn't look real either, and yet, there he is.

that ones actually really cool, earth from mars...

but seriously though, they dont need to fake pics of mars, they have rovers there and several orbiters, unless you believe that the whole space program is a fake

you really think out of the thousands upon thousands of people involved in the space program that not a single person would squeal if it was fake?  The first one to break the news to the media would be wealthy beyond belief, how do you expect that many people to resist the temptation?

Indeed.  We have an orbiter going around Mars mapping the whole planet, two exploration robots and a stationary robotic lab testing soil samples.  Hundreds of people working on each mission and daily updates via the NASA website.  Photographs showing the landed vechiles not only ON Mars but during descent.  Time-lapse footage of Sprit and Opportunity's journey across the surface.

The people at NASA are hard working scientists, not internet con-men that spend all day photo-shopping faked pictures.  People care about space exploration and are making amazing progress. 

To belittle all of that is pretty ignorant and unappreciative of the dreams and ambitions of people who are actually contributing to our understanding of the universe beyond this little planet.  It humbles me to think what these men and women acheive.  Shooting a fucking robot at another planet and landing it safely so it can carry out remote observation is incredible.
